We have it in our elementary school's library, but when I read it it scared me sufficiently to not read it aloud and invite calls from parents. I hear enough about minor things as it is!

By the way, our Samantha loves playing with acorns as much as Bizy Balls. I have ridiculously eclectic taste and even when I do read popular fiction, the "I read it because everyone else said it was good" trap tends to get me good. The more obscure, it seems, the more I enjoy a book. My experience with Stephen King vs. reading a 60-year-old book about WWII is a perfect example. And, this wasn't even a review! It was an excerpt from Library Journal that was used as the book description. So, without even reading any reviews, the first thing I read gave the plot away. I should have known better than to bother after that. Oh, well. Live and learn. Sometimes a spoiler doesn't entirely ruin the read, but that's rare.

Thanks! I would not have thought to describe the book as "vintage" but that's a much better word than "old". LOL It was a very exciting find!Bookfoolhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08247136634069540446noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29370872.post-47487051615479943252012-10-17T21:42:54.949-05:002012-10-17T21:42:54.949-05:00The books you read are so obscure to me. It stinks when they do that! I liked your mini-reviews today, and I also love your find of a vintage looking book!Zibileehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07443338685890187334noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29370872.post-65495045418018385132012-10-17T20:10:26.626-05:002012-10-17T20:10:26.626-05:00Or is it "cinched" the deal? I really enjoyed it. There's a book entitled Operation Mincemeat and I had that on my wish list, but after reading The Man Who Never Was and skimming a large number of reviews of Operation Mincemeat, I decided I could not do better than the original source. The biggest complaint was that the book was filled with extraneous information and I tend to like leaner writing, so that clinched the deal. :)Bookfoolhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08247136634069540446noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29370872.post-92124934190315969212012-10-17T18:56:47.582-05:002012-10-17T18:56:47.582-05:00The Man Who Never Was sounds like an interesting a...The Man Who Never Was sounds like an interesting and important read about wwII. I had to google & refresh my memory about Operation Mincemeat. You might be interested in the novel Restless by William Boyd which has a similar WWII theme about feeding false documents to the enemy! cheers. http://www.thecuecard.com/node/22 thecuecardhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08870323589682197091noreply@blogger.com
