She is brilliant but her books require patience. Life After Life was a lot more fun, I think - much lighter reading. I don't do audios, of course, so I can't comment on whether or not reading the actual book may make a difference. I was told by our F2F leader that very few people in our group enjoyed Behind the Scenes at the Museum, although most liked Life After Life.Bookfoolhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08247136634069540446noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29370872.post-90493093417518599842013-07-23T05:34:33.688-05:002013-07-23T05:34:33.688-05:00I tried Behind the Scenes at the Museum a few year...I tried Behind the Scenes at the Museum a few years ago and couldn't get interested. I'm not sure I have the patience for this author's style, although a brilliant/spectacular ending is tempting. I do know that Life After Life is not one to listen to on audio. Tried that and was completely baffled!Leshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08345657431432380804noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29370872.post-61608916884673696572013-07-22T19:53:33.413-05:002013-07-22T19:53:33.413-05:00Jackson Brodie series are my still favorite. All the humour, she takes several strands that don't seem connected, and brings them all together.raidergirl3https://www.blogger.com/profile/03629915042716259349noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29370872.post-46946036326814364492013-07-22T14:45:24.608-05:002013-07-22T14:45:24.608-05:00You're welcome! I think my F2F group leader read and enjoyed Case Histories - can't remember, but she's the one who suggested Behind the Scenes at the Museum for our July read (I missed the meeting but apparently most everyone agreed the book was tedious but brilliant). "Normal" is hard to imagine in relation to Kate Atkinson's writing, at this point! I have Case Histories on my Nook, and it sounds like one of her more "normal" books. This is just my second Kate Atkinson book and I started with Life After Life, her most recent, so I wasn't sure what to expect, going all the way back to her first. Her style is the same but I think she's fine-tuned it a bit, so with Life After LIfe there's not quite the level of depth that made reading Behind the Scenes feel like a confusing slog but that same wit, humor and awesome characterization is still present. She's definitely hit my favorites list, too. I was so impressed with the way she pulled everything together in the end.Bookfoolhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08247136634069540446noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29370872.post-81759029921687769232013-07-22T09:20:37.390-05:002013-07-22T09:20:37.390-05:00I felt the same way about Behind the Scenes. I can't remember exactly what the books was about, other than it's a whole family and I was confused by the generations and time, and that in the end it came together spectacularly.
I'm left with an impression of loving the book, at the end. It moved Kate Atkinson onto my favorite author list. I mean, I loved her Jackson Brodie books, but this catapulted her even higher.raidergirl3https://www.blogger.com/profile/03629915042716259349noreply@blogger.com
