You really never know whether a discussion will end up lively and funny, like our discussion of Into the Free, or totally fall flat. It's fun when everyone has something to contribute to the discussion.

Sorry about your group. A lot of the books my group reads are of no interest to me (although I've ended up reading and loving some I planned to avoid), but they toss in enough titles of interest that I probably go about half the time. I bought last month's book and didn't read it, plus I missed the meeting because I had a headache. It turned out they all hated the book. So, now I've got this book that I know everyone in my group considered poorly written and I'm not sure quite what to do with it. Donate it? I really don't want to waste my time if it's all that bad.

I'd have trouble with a group that compared Austen to a Harlequin. Her books are so witty and insightful about the manners and traditions of the time. Oh, now you've got me craving Jane. LOL

Just an FYI, Into the Free is going to have a sequel. And, someone said it was meant to be a young adult novel. The comment about it being YA surprised me but I wasn't surprised to hear there will be a sequel. I do think the ending was rushed and frustrating. A second book might go a long way toward fixing that problematic ending.Bookfoolhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08247136634069540446noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29370872.post-65508157047453925652012-06-23T11:16:20.093-05:002012-06-23T11:16:20.093-05:00Gaye,

Sometimes my group gets kind of noisy, talking over each other, when they disagree. I just sit there listening and grinning. :) The food was good. Husband tried an online version of Vidalia onion dip that had 2 cups of all three ingredients - onion, swiss cheese and mayo. It was too soupy, but the lady at my meeting said, "2 teaspoons of mayo, just enough to bind it," so he's going to try it her way, next time. It still tasted great. :)Bookfoolhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08247136634069540446noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29370872.post-85177128790249316952012-06-23T00:12:01.717-05:002012-06-23T00:12:01.717-05:00What an entertaining evening. I enjoy finding how others view the same ideas and words. Isn't it cool to have so many differing opinions?? And food is a definite plus! I'm going to have to look up Vidslia onion dip now...I'm curious!Inside A Bookhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16962025550367558251noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29370872.post-47515656745778418172012-06-21T15:42:28.767-05:002012-06-21T15:42:28.767-05:00Isn't it funny how some book group meetings en...Isn't it funny how some book group meetings end up? I loved reading about yours. I don't attend my "regular" group anymore because they've starting reading books that I have no interest in. At all. Ever. LOL

I remember the meeting that we discussed Jane Austen's PERSUASION. This was a library group that I moderated, so I felt a bit responsible for reactions, even if I wasn't the one that suggested the book. Anyway, I was shocked at how many of the women (most "senior" ladies) had not read any of Jane's books. At the discussion, they totally dissed my beloved Jane. Said that it read like a Harlequin romance. Seriously? They didn't get the wit and humor. I was crushed. LOL

I'm sticking with my mystery book group, however. I'm curious about INTO THE FREE and will likely pick it up. Sounds intriguing. And we say "hey" here too. :-)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
