At the point I stopped reading, though, I just felt like he was bouncing around, trying to figure things out without making a whole lot of sense and, yeah, it had a judgmental tone. I wondered if it was just me.

Everyone does cherry-picking. That's why there are so many different factions under the umbrella of Christianity.Bookfoolhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08247136634069540446noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29370872.post-70351641551985160642009-06-04T12:46:45.167-05:002009-06-04T12:46:45.167-05:00Hostile to America's vast consumer society? It sounds more like a generational in crowd thing to me.

Since it's my backyard he's talking about, I actually read the first chapter and it's amazing how out of touch the guy sounds. "Her new friend"? Is that code for a one night stand? Fear, fear, fear. Fear of female sexuality, fear of new ideas, fear of differences.

This is fascinating to me because as a Lutheran in the Bay Area, I seem to hold conflicting views simultaneously. It's not that I think the church should change with the times but it does seem to me that while my pastor thunders that we can't cherry pick the Bible, we do exactly that anyway.Carrie Khttp://mymiddlenameispatience.typepad.comnoreply@blogger.com
