There's some obvious overlap of characters; Rebecca Nurse seems to have been an elderly lady who was known for her kind and gentle spirit - neither author chose to change her name and her character was consistent. But, the authors chose such different perspectives and in each book some of the characters are fictionalized. I realized, as I was reading ABwC, that I'd rather just read about the actual events and characters than feel myself placed in the midst of a fictional account.

But, that's just me. :)Bookfoolhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08247136634069540446noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29370872.post-39182012848359737812007-10-31T09:47:00.000-05:002007-10-31T09:47:00.000-05:00This one sounds really good, and I like the fact t...This one sounds really good, and I like the fact that you compared it to another on the same topic. I think I can skip Susannah Morrow, but A Break with Charity sounds worth pursuing.jenclairhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06046532245054911248noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29370872.post-73437155181960399342007-10-29T17:34:00.000-05:002007-10-29T17:34:00.000-05:00Chris,The RIP is by far my favorite challenge. Or, maybe I like "atmospheric" novels more than I realize. :)

Nope, no sequel. The other Rinaldi book on my stacks is about the Hatfields and McCoys. It looks fun, too. I love historical fiction.

Yep, I got both Rinaldi books from Book Closeouts. Danger is right. ;)Bookfoolhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08247136634069540446noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29370872.post-56788490555280178162007-10-29T17:26:00.000-05:002007-10-29T17:26:00.000-05:00Firedrake,A Break with Charity is my first read by...Firedrake,

A Break with Charity is my first read by Ann Rinaldi and I liked it a lot. I'll definitely read more. It caught my eye just from the picture when you posted the pic of your stack-o-books, and your review is wonderful! There's a sequel too, right? And didn't you get this one from bookcloseouts?? dangerous....chrisa511https://www.blogger.com/profile/05793512698366676453noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29370872.post-18642030163089063002007-10-29T15:56:00.000-05:002007-10-29T15:56:00.000-05:00I haven't read Susannah Morrow, but I did find A B...I haven't read Susannah Morrow, but I did find A Break With Charity to be very interesting. I find it rather fascinating that the two authors chose to portray the events from completely different perspectives.Bookfoolhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08247136634069540446noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29370872.post-61970177589566027322007-10-29T13:19:00.000-05:002007-10-29T13:19:00.000-05:00It is an interesting choice that the author made t...It is an interesting choice that the author made to make the protagonist a witness to the events. It would be hard for me (if I were writing the story) to distance myself that way, but you are right, with all the emotions tied up in that subject at the time, perhaps distance is what is called for.kookiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00994570192941993135noreply@blogger.com
