But, I think Goolrick's stories go just a bit too far off the rails for me. It'll be interesting to hear your thoughts!Bookfoolhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08247136634069540446noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29370872.post-87512013223797531762012-05-30T16:34:08.286-05:002012-05-30T16:34:08.286-05:00I've been considering buying Heading Out To Wo...I've been considering buying Heading Out To Wonderful. Like you, I liked the writing in A Reliable Wife even if the story wasn't always stellar. I'll try this one, but it might be a reason for Goolrick and I to break up. We'll see.Andihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05220718933942181809noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29370872.post-92100415544257325402012-05-29T17:22:08.843-05:002012-05-29T17:22:08.843-05:00I'll just reply to both, here. I like Robert Goolrick's writing style but his stories are apparently just not for me. The other book . . . sigh. Sucked in by the description. I like reading about the immigrant experience and was hoping for a bit more about Korea and why the family left. It was too sketchy and vague for me. I didn't come out of the reading feeling like I'd learned anything. Instead, I felt like I'd been thrust in the middle of a dysfunctional family during a particularly depressing time for them and it was not a good experience. I still can't believe I finished it.

Thanks! I'm going to stick with minis for a while.Bookfoolhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08247136634069540446noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29370872.post-36970583992378482622012-05-29T16:32:38.113-05:002012-05-29T16:32:38.113-05:00Uh, I think that last comment got posted before I ...Uh, I think that last comment got posted before I was done typing. The cover is awesome and the premise sounds interesting too. I enjoyed most of Heading Out to Wonderful, but it did start to creep me out around the 2/3 mark and I thought the ending was a let-down. Forgotten Country was totally depressing. Wish I hadn't wasted my time. Thanks! I always read a wacky mix. It sounds very different than his first. The Forgotten Country sounds a bit depressing, well ok, more than a little depressing, so I think I will skip it. Great mini reviews today. I loved that you had such a mix in there!Zibileehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07443338685890187334noreply@blogger.com
