I rank it at the top of my movie and tv list of favourites. :) (I'm a big Archie Kennedy fan) However, I tried reading the books but they were a bit slow for me... should probably try reading them again!Jasmine Ruigrokhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01976708690026168727noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29370872.post-7320495581849457362010-04-13T17:23:59.902-05:002010-04-13T17:23:59.902-05:00You must be a fan with Hornblower as your screen n...You must be a fan with Hornblower as your screen name! Thanks!! I loved this book so much I could just eat it. I'm very anxious to read more (just a matter of getting obligatory books out of the way). Nice to "meet" you. :)Bookfoolhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08247136634069540446noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29370872.post-4032436062389209192010-04-13T16:29:46.500-05:002010-04-13T16:29:46.500-05:00Hi there I love your post on the hornblower book. ...Hi there I love your post on the hornblower book. I tried to get my son interested in them, but I checked them out from the library. He prefers that I buy or swap so that he can read off his shelves on his own whims (can't say I blame him). I'll have to give them a try, myself.Bookfoolhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08247136634069540446noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29370872.post-48731313559659466712010-03-19T14:31:52.918-05:002010-03-19T14:31:52.918-05:00I really must read these. I love adventure, and as you mention, the language has its own appeal.

I love David Weber's s-f series about Honor Harrington, which is, supposedly based on the Hornblower novels.jenclairhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06046532245054911248noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29370872.post-26863670240840414122010-03-19T10:42:53.269-05:002010-03-19T10:42:53.269-05:00Heather,

Also, if you're a buyer rather than a streamer (I buy DVDs, still . . .kind of behind the curve, here), it's cheaper to get the entire set of 8 Hornblower movies than to buy one or two at a time. MUCH cheaper. Ioan Gruffudd is awesome. Robert Lindsay makes the show perfect, though. He's amazing.Bookfoolhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08247136634069540446noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29370872.post-89468965264583939682010-03-19T04:30:15.698-05:002010-03-19T04:30:15.698-05:00I've always wanted to try one of these! I think there are 11 books -- not positive, but there are quite a few. I've wanted to give Horatio a try for years.

Anna,

Horatio Hornblower is a pretty funny name. In the book and movie, both (they took the line directly from the book and I probably won't get it right), someone asks the new sailor what his name is and when he repeats it (with a quiver in his voice because he's already getting seasick), someone responds, "How unfortunate for you." Or something like that. Your FIL had good taste.Bookfoolhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08247136634069540446noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29370872.post-54239475102155973792010-03-18T07:43:17.646-05:002010-03-18T07:43:17.646-05:00Not sure these are my cup of tea, but this post br...Not sure these are my cup of tea, but this post brought a smile to my face. When my father-in-law was still alive, he was ALWAYS watching the Hornblower movies, and I remember just dying of laughter and repeating "Horatio Hornblower" over and over. (So mature of me, right? LOL)

--Anna
Diary of an EccentricAnnahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08046635675540466183noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29370872.post-38391813075462674082010-03-18T07:42:08.545-05:002010-03-18T07:42:08.545-05:00I'm not sure this would be for me, but my dad ...I'm not sure this would be for me, but my dad loves stories like this!bermudaonionhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10726401178972099557noreply@blogger.com
