I'm nicely painkillered-up, right now. Migraines are such a bitch.

Isn't that a great sign? Hubby took that for me; he knows I have a fondness for funny signs.Bookfoolhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08247136634069540446noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29370872.post-21041259775530969512007-07-08T20:52:00.000-05:002007-07-08T20:52:00.000-05:00It sound pretty interesting, whining and all. Like me. ;)

Do I detect a little Harriet the Spy in your childhood?

Hope the migraines subside! That sign is hilarious.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29370872.post-18743675119803368782007-07-08T13:27:00.000-05:002007-07-08T13:27:00.000-05:00Kookie,That was the impression I got, too. She's ...Kookie,

That was the impression I got, too. She's pretty critical of other people and not, in my opinion, very self-aware. It didn't occur to her that there was anything wrong with smoking marijuana or going out drinking and meeting with boyfriends in a government vehicle. But, she felt free to zone in on other folks' mistakes or bad choices.

I think it's pretty common, though, for a person who writes a memoir to be a little vain - you almost have to in order to feel like you have a story worth telling, right? I think that's why the book If You Lived Here, I'd Know Your Name stands out. Heather Lende sounded humble, in spite of all her good deeds and the fact that she's pretty much terrific at everything.

I love that sign. David would agree with you. He said Australians are, in general, very friendly and good-humored. I would have had loads of fun if he'd just taken me along and dropped me off in one of the major cities. Sigh.

Wendy,

Thanks. :)

I didn't know anything at all about Lindsay Moran, going into this book - it was (blush) an impulse purchase. But, I do think the book is well worth reading because Moran gives you a good look inside the training of a CIA agent and a realistic idea of what the job is involves. It's not something I honestly ever gave much thought, after I realized the neighbors weren't too interesting to spy on. ;)Bookfoolhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08247136634069540446noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29370872.post-58647489931595520882007-07-08T12:51:00.000-05:002007-07-08T12:51:00.000-05:00I thoroughly enjoyed reading your review on this o...I thoroughly enjoyed reading your review on this one, Nancy. I am only vaguely familiar with Moran's story from the tidbits I caught on the radio here and there. It wasn't a story I followed too closely, I admit. I may have to look into this one further. Even with its flaws it sounds like it is a worthwhile read. Thanks for the review.Literary Felinehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13079276242303738719noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29370872.post-19177411591713993322007-07-08T11:35:00.000-05:002007-07-08T11:35:00.000-05:00Seems to me that the author has this attitude that...Seems to me that the author has this attitude that if something goes wrong, it is always someone else's fault, so it is up to them to fix it to her satisfaction. I don't understand that. People need to take the responsibility for the things that have gone wrong and fix it themselves.

That's a funny sign. Australians have a quirky sense of humor.kookiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00994570192941993135noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29370872.post-73291482551879887992007-07-08T10:50:00.000-05:002007-07-08T10:50:00.000-05:00Bridget,Thanks. The one thing that surprised me was that her training was so close to a movie portrayal - not that the job, itself, was dull. That's probably why the majority of the book was about her training; it was far and away the most interesting thing about becoming a CIA agent.Bookfoolhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08247136634069540446noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29370872.post-26911649861461883272007-07-08T10:28:00.000-05:002007-07-08T10:28:00.000-05:00I really enjoyed this review! It sounds interesting, though I am always surprised when people are shocked to learn that actual jobs are so different from what movies usually portray (ok, I've been jaded since childhood, so maybe I'm an exception).

That sign is great!Bridgethttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01641404632001445083noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29370872.post-20434768516590988822007-07-08T09:59:00.000-05:002007-07-08T09:59:00.000-05:00CJ,You've got it - that's exactly what happened. ...CJ,

You've got it - that's exactly what happened. Although, the interesting thing about her experience is that she figured out she wasn't going to be like James Bond, early on, and considered backing out a time or two. She let her bosses talk her into staying; they used the "you're one of our best and brightest" nudge.

Oh, I don't know about those Canadians (wink, wink).

Does seem to be a hot-button topic for you! LOL

It's sunny, today!! Squeee! Maybe I'll see a snake or something. It's deadly dull at times and dangerous at other times. Of course you go into countries where people hate Americans. We don't need all that much intelligence gathered in Canada, for pete's sake.

Gee, can you tell this is a bit of a hot button for me?

It's a good review, regardless of the subject. I wish mine were that good. And I loved the picture.

Hope you avoid the migraines!

cjhCJhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07798965643027904154noreply@blogger.com
