Izzy had a swollen elbow, infected after an injury. I'm assuming it had to do with a big human foot connecting hard with the elbow, although our wonderful vet said even "play fighting" can cause such injuries. We'll have to watch out more carefully for our delicate fur beauty, regardless.
Wahoo #1 - Izzy is looking terrific!
Today, I knew Izzy was going to be okay when she jumped onto my bed for her morning head rub (smiling -- seriously) and then knocked her rubber ducky into the sink water 3 times. She just played with a jingle ball and didn't last long but she was so sick that I'm sure she needs some recovery time. She had a temperature of 104. Yikes! You know that glazed look small children get when they have a high fever? That's what she looked like. Today, she is bright-eyed.
Wahoo #2 - Fiona was worried! She sniffed at her sister a bit but when Izzy made it clear that she wanted space, Fi politely backed off.
It's so nice to have cats that get along. Well . . . most of the time. Isabel got smacked when the two girls were sitting in the window, a bit ago, but she just flinched and didn't swipe back. Harmony resumed.
Wahoo #3 - Wahoo for harmony! It's so nice to have two kitties who actually get along and often even enjoy each other's company.
This is my favorite photo of sick Isabel. I love the reflection on my beautiful-hardwood-maple-floor-that-I'm-going-to-miss. Yes, sometimes I'm still hit with brief moments of, "Oh, man. I hate to leave that behind!" But, Wahoo! - not often. :)
Reminder: Tomorrow is Children's Day at Bookfoolery. There will be 4 short reviews. At least, I hope they'll be short. I'm a busy girl.
What wonderful, wahooey things are happening in your world?
Bookfool, very grateful for veterinarians

I'm glad Isabel is doing better!
ReplyDeleteHard to believe you're going to miss your house.
Thanks, Carrie!
DeleteYeah, I know. Actually, I'm sure that once I get moved I won't miss much of anything except for the flooring - which we did choose with care. I love our hardwood floors, especially that maple. It's not veneer; it's solid. You can't get that stuff without paying a fortune, these days. It was the first flooring we had to replace.
Poor little baby! I'm so glad that Izzy is feeling better today!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Melissa! It's so great to see her feeling better. Yesterday was kind of scary!
DeleteHope Izzy is back to tip top shape! Poor lil thing.
ReplyDeleteShe's much better, Carrie. She still seems to wear out a little more easily than normal but I'm sure that's to be expected. She had a hard day. I'm pleased that she's doing so well. :)
DeletePoor Izzy! I am glad she is doing better!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Kelly! Me, too!
DeleteAw, poor baby. I'm glad she's doing better.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Kathy! Me, too!
DeleteI found your blog by chance and stayed to look at your cats. I am a cat person and a bookworm. I have too many books, really. I have been collecting them since childhood and brought a trunk of them when I moved from Paris to San Francisco and now have thousands – I need to give thm away, but it’s so hard. I’ll come back to look at your cats and read your reviews, but unless I have something to say I won’t comment.
ReplyDeleteHi Vagabonde!
DeleteI'm glad you happened across my blog! It's always nice to meet another cat-loving book fanatic! I have thousands of books, too. We're getting ready to move to a new house in the coming months and moving all those books is going to be a pain. I'm working hard at thinning them but they're like my personal blankies -- so hard to part with!
I have to say I'm envious of anyone who has lived in Paris *and* San Francisco. :)
Thanks for the commentary. I really was worried for her. I hate when my cat gets sick. It's awful.
ReplyDeleteI'm also glad they get along. I have a friend who's two kitty sisters are NOT getting along right now. It's so sad because they used to love each other! Sigh.
And, as always, great pictures!
Jenny,
DeleteThanks for caring. :) It was frightening. I think I can safely say I get every bit as worried about my fur babies as I did my kids when they were tiny and sick. Not being able to ask what hurts makes it confusing. Do I go to the vet? Am I panicking for no reason? Fortunately, Izzy is so active that she did make it fairly obvious. Good thing, since she was really, really sick.
We are very fortunate that our cats get along so well. Our last two did not. They would occasionally sleep sort of near each other (they liked the top bunk when our kids were in bunk beds) but mostly they avoided each other or fought. It was kind of stressful; we had to break up a lot of fights. I'm thrilled that Izzy and Fi get along so well!
Thank you! I'm lucky the camera was handy when the kitties decided to take in the view together, today. And, Isabel was tolerant of me, even though she felt like crap, last night. :)
Phew! I'm glad order is restored Chez Bookfoolery! I loved your photographs and accompanying descriptions...and now I have to look for those jingle balls you write about so my sink won't be lonely. Sammy chases around one little tiny bb out if my son's gun for hours. I don't even know how she can see that thing let alone keep track of it.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Bellezza. It's quite a relief. The cats are play-fighting, as we speak. Fiona has retreated into the cat carrier. It's nice to see Isabel looking energetic.
DeleteThe jingle balls Izzy loves come on a card - a set of 8, I think - and the best place to find them is the Walmart pets department. I've tried similar toys from other places but those are the best. They have nice little open grooves that Izzy uses to pick one up with her teeth and move it when it's in a place that she can't bat it around easily. On the negative side, if you step on them they'll break and my guys never look where they're going. So, we occasionally have to buy another card of them, but they're cheap and worth every penny.
I found a bb on the bedroom floor, the other day. Not sure where it came from but I threw it away. Isabel forages. I had to stop her from eating a tiny safety pin, two days ago! Yikes!
Off to Wal-Mart so I can buy such a card if jingle bells. None of my children should be playing with bb's, really. Maybe Daniel will be converted at the same time Sammy is? ;)
DeleteHope they love 'em! I should clarify. We don't own any guns. I don't know where that little metal ball came from but it was probably actually smaller than a bb. Daniel never did shoot and Sarah definitely wouldn't let him (doctor wives can be very funny about dangerous things, LOL). Kiddo is into archery! Both of my boys felt a little out of place surrounded by people who hunt, during their school years.
DeleteSo glad to hear that Izzy is feeling better! Your cats are so beautiful -- and you take great pics of them!
ReplyDeleteThanks! Izzy is, unfortunately, hell on wheels when it comes to dosing with meds. I'm trying her liquid med on her food, today. Wish us luck. Thanks so much. I try. I'm not really a very good photographer but a persistent one. I need to refresh my technical skills. The kitties are both lovely subjects, I agree. :)
DeleteAh best of luck with dosing Izzy! My Cairo was sick recently and giving her pills was hell! I was terrible at it in fact -- she generally frothed at the mouth and spit the things up on me. Luckily Mr. B was usually more successful.
DeleteAs for your picture-taking skills, I think you're being too modest! :)
Thanks. Unfortunately, it is not going well. I may have to give the vet a call and ask if she'll need a second shot. She totally panics when I try to give her the medicine and she's eating so little that I'm afraid she won't get enough from mixing it into her food. I had no idea how easy I had it with my previous kitties!!!
DeleteAw, thanks. You're too kind. :)
I'm so glad that she's well! One of my cats is a big lazy-pants, so figuring out if he's not feeling well could be more of a challenge. So far he's been healthy for all of his four years that we've had him so we've been very lucky.
ReplyDeleteThat does make it harder, Alyce! Our Miss Spooky got a big, bad infection once and I thought she seemed fine but she wasn't extremely active on a regular day. It was only when Eldest son came home for a visit and said he thought she was sick that I took her in. Sure enough, he was right. I felt bad for not noticing, but sometimes it's hard to tell when a cat is sick if they don't move much. Izzy did at least make it obvious, since she's such an active girl.
