Meaning, there's always some ethnic group that the the (mostly white) people in charge seem to fear. Not comparing life in Mexico today to life for Jews in Hitler's reign. No...Uh-oh, you're going to get me into trouble. Now I've got to find Winton's Children. :)

50 Children is an April release and I just realized I jumped the gun - it'll be available on the 22nd. It is excellent. There was apparently a documentary released before the book, so I'll be looking that up.

The Accidental Caregiver is available in paperback or for Kindle - very easy to find and I'm excited that Collins is working on a film version. It's a pleasant, upbeat read.

Children's Wartime Diaries is a little harder to locate because it's apparently out of print but when I bought my copy there were plenty. It's just a matter of finding one in the condition you prefer. I hope you'll let me know if you read them!

One thing I forgot to mention is the fact that I learned something new about immigration, that being "things don't change". You could easily substitute the word "Mexican" for "Jews" in today's environment. Very sad, I think, that there is always some population that our leaders choose to fear and/or loathe. Why can't we just all see each other as humans, period? That was one of the things about 50 Children that deeply saddened me, reading about how even knowing that Hitler was kicking Jewish citizens out of their home countries, no exceptions were made to save extra lives. What an appalling thing to do, turning away people in dire need of a safe haven. It makes stories like 50 Children even more meaningful, knowing what they were up against.

Off my soapbox. :)Bookfoolhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08247136634069540446noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29370872.post-81461753614592668812014-04-16T17:36:27.889-05:002014-04-16T17:36:27.889-05:00I am captivated with these wonderful books that yo...I am captivated with these wonderful books that you reviewed. I would love to find them. Being Jewish and reading as much as possible about the wonderful people who saved children and others is gratifying. Winton's Children is wonderful.travelerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06191803578622949052noreply@blogger.com
