Don't know why I haven't gotten to it, yet.

Oh, heavens, I'd forgotten about the flooding in Australia, already. It's been quite a year for disasters, hasn't it? Flooding is awful because it ruins absolutely everything.

Yep, we're in Civil War territory. Vicksburg has a military park and the artifacts I mentioned that were being moved were in Grand Gulf, about an hour's drive south of us. It's quite an interesting area, really.Bookfoolhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08247136634069540446noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29370872.post-12765898455112840632011-05-07T15:50:37.734-05:002011-05-07T15:50:37.734-05:00I read Kate Mosse's first book in this loosely...I read Kate Mosse's first book in this loosely connected trilogy, but haven't yet managed to read the next two.

So scary hearing about flooding, especially in light of the terrible flooding we had in several parts of Australia this year.

I probably knew (but at 6am had forgotten) that you lived in such a historic place!Marghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13508430635744720721noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29370872.post-72703016388188076822011-05-06T10:48:08.257-05:002011-05-06T10:48:08.257-05:00Kathy,

I loved it!

There's no way to totally conttain the flooding. The best they can do is try to minimize the damage and in certain areas. It is truly epic. Yeah, flooding is definitely scary. We've been flooded. Water ruins absolutely everything.

Zibilee,

You really do have to be patient, but it's worth the time. I'm glad I stuck it out. I would have missed out on a fascinating piece of history if I'd given up on The Winter Ghosts!Bookfoolhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08247136634069540446noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29370872.post-2006950550666822722011-05-06T08:03:59.978-05:002011-05-06T08:03:59.978-05:00This book sounds interesting, but I am not sure if...This book sounds interesting, but I am not sure if I would be able to deal with such a slow beginning. Often, I find that the books that have slow beginnings and redeem themselves become some of my favorite reads, but it does take some steam to get going with them. I think I am going to have to take a closer look at this one. It might be something I'd enjoy. Is internet news biased? It's still all Osama-Obama. Weird. It is truly an epic flood and you have to feel for those who are going through it and about to. At least down here, people do have some time to prepare! It won't touch us at all. We're nowhere near the river, thank goodness. Send your thoughts to the flood victims and volunteers. The flood is, for me, just another reminder that I need to take the Red Cross course for disaster volunteers. We have refugees flocking to our church at least once a year, on average.Bookfoolhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08247136634069540446noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29370872.post-23670311144307888922011-05-05T23:13:56.420-05:002011-05-05T23:13:56.420-05:00Hang in there!! We're thinking of those who have suffered so mightily these last two weeks.

Sending good thoughts!
Thanks for sharing.
