Thursday Thoughts
No thirteen for me, today. Instead, just an anecdote and some other chatter.
I completely forgot to mention yesterday's best moment! I rushed to move a tipsy planter and some other items I thought were likely to be damaged if an approaching storm produced the seventy mile-per-hour winds predicted. As I stepped inside, our black cat, Spooky, ran out the door. "Oh, no you don't!" I said, and swooped her up to keep her out of the imminent downpour. I opened the back door, once again, and Sunshine ran out. So, without putting Spooky down, I ran and snatched up the other cat. I had a black cat under my left arm, an orange cat in my right and the black cat was hissing at the orange but we made it inside and two minutes later the sky cracked open and let loose a deluge. Spooky jumped up on the windowsill and I said, "See! See! That's why I brought you back inside!" She gave me the blinky look of contentment. More than likely, the cat already had forgotten she wanted to go outside just minutes before, but who knows.
Still reading verrrrry slowly. It will probably be a few days before I post a book review.
Just arrived from Paperback Swap:
A House in Corfu by Emma Tennant
Fortune's Children: The Fall of the House of Vanderbilt by Arthur T. Vanderbilt II
The Painted Veil by W. Somerset Maugham
Just FYI:
Some of my books are also going out the door.
Kind of comforting knowing:
The youngest is taking lifesaving. You know, just in case one of us someday clutches his or her chest and collapses or starts to drown. Again, you never know.
I am migraine-free, today!
Thought you'd like to know and thanks to those who posted well wishes!!

Thank you for visiting my blog! I use comment moderation because apparently my blog is a spam magnet. Don't worry. I love to hear from real people! I'm a really chatty gal and I love your comments!
Yay for no migraines! Your bird picture put a nice smile on my face...funny stuff :) I'm horribly allergic to cats, but they're so damn cute and clever...too bad we're not compatible.
ReplyDeleteI'm right there with you with the reading slow. I managed to get through 30 pages last night. It's a great book too! I just can't stay awake.
Chris,
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you enjoyed the bird picture. I saw those two birds facing each other and thought, "Oh, boy, I can play with that!" LOL
Believe it or not, I'm allergic to cats, too, as is my eldest son. He's much more allergic than I am, though. When I had him allergy tested, the doctor said I'd have to get rid of the cats and I said, "Heck, no, I'm getting rid of Daniel." The look on his face was pure horror. So, I clarified and told him that Daniel was, in fact, about to leave for school and wouldn't be home very often. LOL
I can't stay awake, either! Argh! Sometimes you just need a brain break, I guess. :)
Cats are such wonderful creatures, aren't they?
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear you are feeling better. Migraines are just the worst. I empathize with you!!!
Hooray for migraine free!!!! And love that story. I'm horrifically allergic to cats. When I housesit for Thesis Director I stuff up by just walking in her house. Oy! And I used to have two cats. I got used to them and didn't have a horrid reaction, but once they were gone the allergy came right back.
ReplyDeleteAndi
I am glad you are rid of the migraine, Nancy. They are no fun at all. :-( I bumped my head on the door frame of my car this morning when I went to get something out and I tell you, it hurt for the rest of the day. Not nearly as bad as a migraine, of course, but it didn't make for a happy Wendy.
ReplyDeleteI am allergic to cats too! I've gotten used to my cat though and so he doesn't really bother me--or so I like to think. Put me in the living room at my in-laws or anyone elses' house with cats though and my allergies have a free for all.
I'm glad you're feeling better. Migranes are the worst, they make me throw up. That might be a little too much info, lol.
ReplyDeleteI want a cat sooooo bad. When my husbands leaves to deploy I'm pretty sure I'm going to get a kitten to keep me company.
I'm with you on the slow reading, company and work and life has just been getting in the way.
Have a great weekend!
Malady,
ReplyDeleteYes, cats are wonderful creatures and loads of fun. Thank you; migraines are miserable and I'm happy that I've managed to chase this one off (it's coming back every morning, but the meds are working well). :)
Andi,
Thanks. My kids and I are allergic to cats, too. We seem to have survived but Daniel is just like you - he was okay living with them but when he comes home from school it hits him. Oddly, almost every girlfriend he's ever had has been a cat lover. I have a feeling he'll end up in a cat-owning household, again, one day!
Wendy,
Oh, your poor noggin! Sorry you hit your head. I know how that hurts; I'm a klutz and I've banged my head many times. Cabinet corners are painful, too. LOL
Funny how many of us are allergic to cats but live with them, anyway, isn't it? We went without any pets for about 10 years but since we got our two, I can't imagine having a home without cats (again). :)
Nik,
ReplyDeleteThat's okay, I always at least get a little nauseous, myself. I only get that kind of migraine--where you can't move or even sip soda without everything coming up--about twice a year, thank goodness.
I hope you get a kitten when your husband deploys. They're excellent companions; I'll bet one would help keep your mind occupied.
Company's a good excuse for slow reading. I don't know what my problem is; maybe I just need more sleep.
Thanks, hope you have a terrific weekend, too!
Glad you are feeling better. Migraines SUCK! I've suffered from the for long enough to know the oncoming signs.
ReplyDeleteI'm also there with you on the slow reading. Don't know what's wrong with me lately!
Stephanie,
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry you have migraines, too. Mine sometimes have warning signs, but not always enough that I can catch them, darn it.
Maybe it's spring fever that's keeping so many of us from our normal reading pace? Hmmm. Here's hoping we come out of our slump soon!
Hey, I just tagged you for a fave restaurant meme if you're up to playing. Very glad to hear you were migraine-free today.
ReplyDeleteHi Nat,
ReplyDeleteCool, thanks for tagging me! I'll go check out that meme. :)
And, thank you. I actually woke up with that migraine, again, but I took something immediately and it worked. Wahoo!
Glad you're feeling better! The image of you with your cats under your arms made me laugh, and recalls an old Ukrainian rhyme I use in kids' programs. It is a bit nonsensical, as many nursery rhymes are but it suits!
ReplyDeleteOh, oh, 2 little cats,
one is orange and one is black
The little orange cat sees a mouse (squeak squeak)
The little black cat rocks baby to sleep
Melanie,
ReplyDeleteHow funny that the cats are black and orange, like mine! Thanks for sharing!
Funny pic :) I'm glad to see you're enjoying the font-thing and that you're migraine-free !
ReplyDeleteHi Gavin,
ReplyDeleteCan you tell I'm having fun with my new skill? :) Thanks. I'm relieved; I think I finally got rid of that migraine for good.
