Hello, blogging world! Hello, new year! Goodbye, hilarious Christmas kitty-photo opportunities!
I'm going to dive right into reviews, tomorrow. I've already read 4 books in 2014 and Huzzybuns has cooked 3 recipes from Bold: A Cookbook of Big Flavors by Hoffman and Wise (received via Shelf Awareness) so I have much to tell you! Hope everyone's having a fabulous year, so far. I haven't kept up with my sidebar but I'll try to get that updated by tomorrow, as well. Eventually, I hope to get a 2013 Reading in Review post written but I haven't even begun to write that. I'm fussy about waiting till the year has actually ended before I start writing about favorites, just in case I happen to finish a new favorite on December 31. You just never know.
It's sunny, windy and in the 20s, here - apparently quite balmy by comparison with much of the nation. No pollen, no sweat and sunshine? I'm happy. Hope the rest of you stay warm and safe and get in some extra reading time during the cold snap!

I'm freezing!!! I don't have my 2013 post up yet either. I'm finding I have a hard time remembering things. lol The year flew by to me. I have only read 2 books so far for 2014.
ReplyDeleteI know! It's so odd being very, very cold! On the plus side, it's just a passing phase for us. 62 by Friday, they're saying. I can cope with that. I've decided to just enjoy the sensation of shivering while it lasts. ;)
Delete2013 most definitely flew by. I'm shocked at the speed of it. I'd already begun reading two of those books in December, hence the 4. I'm not as fast a reader as you are. January is, oddly, always my best month. I'm not sure why.
What cute photos:0 I need to dig into Bold myself!
ReplyDeleteThanks! I hope you love Bold as much as we do. 4 recipes, as of tonight - all fabulous. We had duck and endive in wine sauce, not sure of the recipe name but I generally dislike duck because it's greasy. It tasted so good I didn't care. Marvelous cookbook. I wish I had people to give it to; I'd buy one for everybody.
DeleteI agree re end of year reads and procrastination (!) - I read two great books just before the year chimed out that made it onto my favourites. (PS Will the new year offer any more cats in clothes?)
ReplyDeleteI ended up frustrated a bit, at the end of the year, hence my reading of Where Are the Children? by Mary Higgins Clark. When I happened across my copy, I had just DNF'd the second book in a week and I wanted to read an old reliable title. And, I did enjoy it every bit as much as the first time. Only Human, a Dr. Who book that turned out to be my last read of the year, was fun so I'm happy to have ended on that note.
DeleteHmm, I do have a photo or two of Izzy in a cocktail dress - not downloaded, yet. Don't tell . . . it's a doggy dress. She was so upset by it that she was paralyzed, almost literally. All she did was scoot her front paws a few inches. She was too terrified to move, poor kitty. I took a few snaps and promised not to bother her again till next Christmas.
Your kitties are so cute!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Kelly!
DeleteI think we read more in January because we miss so much reading time during the holidays. I def. read less in December. Hello new year! Maybe I will remember to write down all the ebooks I read on my phone. lol
ReplyDeleteProbably so, Brittanie. I know I tend to go for really light reads in December. Usually, it's not such an overwhelming month for us, though, since we have such a small family. This year . . . oh, dear. I got a terribly late start. I kept adding ornaments to the tree until about 3 days before Christmas and two of my parcels were sent after. Still haven't taken my best friend in Vicksburg her present. I'm kind of glad it's a new year!
DeleteI'll bet that's tricky, keeping track of the e-books. I write down the title, author, copyright date, number of pages and publisher in a monthly calendar when I finish a book but I hardly ever read e-books so I usually still have the book in hand when I'm writing all that down.
I haven't begun my 2013 Reading in Review post started either. It may not get done for a few more weeks since I really want to get caught up on my reviews first. I think I have 6 or 7 to compose and that's my goal for the weekend. I don't think I've ever fallen this far behind before... May have to resort to some very short reviews!
ReplyDeleteThat cookbook sounds wonderful. I'll have to keep my eye out for it at work. I probably won't buy it, though. I have far too many that I just had to have that I have yet to cook from.
Hope you enjoyed your cold snap. It's snowing here this morning. Not too cold, though. Anything's better than subzero temps! :)
It sometimes takes me a few months to get to the Reading in Review post. I don't mean for it to, but I tend to read a *lot* in January, so I'm always busy trying to keep up with myself.
DeleteThe cookbook is so good. 4 recipes tried, so far, all fabulous. I know what you mean, though. We have a couple shelves full of cookbooks and that's after a recent purge to get rid of the ones we're not using.
I'm loving the cold! I got to wear a coat I bought 2 years ago that I hadn't had a chance to use because it's usually not cold enough for such a well-insulated coat. I'll have to remember to take that one with me if I travel to a colder climate. Our heater did go out briefly, yesterday, but it's recovered so that's good. We're supposed to be back to the 60s by Friday. Real cold never lasts long so we really enjoy the couple weeks that we get real winter weather.
Darling cat photos! I live in CA, but got to experience a bit of winter on the east coast for a few days. :) Enjoy your reading!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Suko!
DeleteOoooh, that must have been quite an experience for you. We were back in the 60s, today - driving with the windows open. I'm pretty sure our 2 weeks of winter are about over.
