Spring Reading Thing Challenge

Katrina at Callapidder Days is hosting a spring reading challenge called the Spring Reading Thing. It runs from March 21 - June 21, so I'm a bit late posting; it took me a few days to decide what I wanted to read. Isn't her button unbearably cute? I love the flexibility of this challenge and have chosen four books, each for different reasons.

1. The Moon on a Stick by Valerie-Anne Baglietto - A book that has been tucked away in a cabinet for at least a year.
2. The 10-Minute Life Coach by Fiona Harrold - Read halfway, last year, and abandoned it (not deliberately; I just became preoccupied).
3. Laughter in the Dark by Vladimir Nabokov - Read 64 pages, put it down somewhere and it disappeared for months.
4. The Sex Lives of Cannibals by J. Maarten Troost - to see what all the fuss is about.

This may be the only new challenge I join; I haven't decided quite yet. Several other challenges appeal to me, but I think limiting the number of challenges I participate in works a little better for me.

  1. I may have to step back and not join in on so many challenges next year. I think I was swept up in the newness of it all. :-) Good luck with the Spring Thing, Nancy!

  2. It's easy to get caught up in the excitement, isn't it? I was thinking about joining the Spring Thing, the 15/15 and the Nonfiction Five. And, then I realized I only need nudges in certain areas and the Spring Thing looked like the one that would be most beneficial to me. I love reading everyone else's challenge posts, though!

  4. Juliann,

I was planning to do the Non-Fiction Five, but then I looked at my recent reads and realized I'm doing a terrific job of reading non-fiction. I just added you to my links. Hope that's okay!

  5. As much as I love the button, I'm not planning to join the challenge. I have enough on my plate with my current three, plus all the yardwork that suddenly needs immediate attention before the weeds start cropping up! I have a feeling my computer time is about to fall by the wayside.

  6. Les,

We have tons of yard work to do, but the pollen is driving all three of us nuts, so we're staying indoors and occasionally turning on the A/C to try to filter the air. I haven't planted a thing, yet. Hope you have fun with the gardening!

  7. I broke down and turned the A/C on today. It was 80 and humid and I knew I'd be miserable tonight trying to fall asleep. The pollen isn't too bad right now, but check with me in a week. I just refilled my Nasonex prescription, so hopefully I'm good to go.

  8. Les,

It got into the 80's here, too, but it was pretty nice - humid but breezy. I let Miss Spooky out for a short time and she just stood on the porch, sniffing. It was so funny; her nose was just in overdrive - too many wonderful spring smells, I guess!

The allergist is refusing to give me any refills till I go in for a visit. I'll have to cave in, soon, because I've had a lot of wheezy days and probably need a better inhaler than I can get OTC. Allergies suck. Hope the pollen doesn't get you. :)

  9. I like that you have reasons for reading all your books.

  10. Thanks, Jennifer. I should probably do that more often. I don't always think about why I choose to read something; I just let them grab me.

Great list, The Sex Lives Of Cannibals?! I can't wait to see your review on that, haha. Happy Reading!

  13. Rae,

It's a travel memoir. Sounds fun, yes? ;)

  14. Oh I know -- there are SO many reading challenges out there! I'm so glad that you decided to be part of the Spring Reading Thing, though. I have to admit that I'm not familiar with the books on your list but, like Jennifer, I like that you're reading with purpose -- a reason for every book. Thanks again for joining the challenge. Enjoy your reading!

And, thanks right back at you for hosting the challenge. :)
