Hi Everybody!
It's me, Bookfool. Remember me? I'm still in Oklahoma, where I zipped off to help my mother when she was admitted to the CCU unit at her local hospital. She's much, much better. I'll be back and forth for months and I will somehow have to figure out what to do about that speeding ticket I got in Louisiana (my first - and I had no idea I was speeding; I was just a little distracted, for obvious reasons). But, I'll be home soon. In the meantime, my internet time has been limited, due to the fact that my mother's computer is a dinosaur and she has dial-up. Not that it matters what she has, since I gave up after an hour of clickety-clickety-clickety followed by a string of error messages. I have been emailing from Burger King. Gotta love it.
Anyway, I have many stories to tell (like the Story of the Upside-down Turkey, the Tale of the Terrible Traffic Ticket, the Burger King Internet Pervert and the Psychic Dreamer - just remind me), but since the Burger King people look at me funny, after a while, I'm just going to post a few photos and tell you all is well. I don't have the ability to stick around long enough to blog-hop, but I hope to do so when I get home in a week. I miss you guys!!
Here are some photos. A hawk spotted on the drive up to Oklahoma (I counted 73, in all):
A prairie dog at an undisturbed, natural prairie-dog village near Kaw Lake in Oklahoma:
It snowed, last night!!!! My car, on my mother's driveway:
I only brought one poppet, Violet. She danced in the snow:
On Thanksgiving, my niece Michelle posed with Violet - more photos of Violet and her travels around the house will be posted, once we return to MS. My brother-in-law (who is a really funny guy with a terrific dry wit) said, "You know, I'm stopping just short of calling you weird," as he watched me pose Violet on shelves and next to the infamous upside-down turkey (great story - you'll love it, but you have to wait till I have more time). Aren't Violet and Michelle cute?
I hope everyone has been happy and well. I've bought a stack of books and have finished 7, since I got here, so Violet has to do some posing with books and I hope to do a massive books-read-and-bought update when I return.
Love to all!

It's great to hear from you - you've been missed.
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear that your mother is doing better. Continued good wishes for her.
Anxiously awaiting your stories!
It's so good to hear from you Nancy and a relief to hear that things are going somewhat ok! I love, love, love your photos! I missed them :) It's ashame that us poppet picture takers get odd looks and comments made at us, isn't it?
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to hear all of your stories, lol. Just the mentions of them had me laughing. Look forward to the full versions. Sorry to hear about your speeding ticket though :( Seriously, it was your first?! I wish I could say that! I've gotten an embarassing number of speeding tickets! I get one every time I go see Megan...never fails. Those empty highways will get you!
Glad to hear from you Nancy! You were missed. I am glad things are going a bit better and you have got so much reading done!
ReplyDeleteI am so glad your mother is doing better, Nancy! I am looking forward to reading up on your adventures when you finally have the time. You are missed, but we all understand.
ReplyDeleteGood to hear from you! Sounds like you have quite a few stories to tell. Love those pics.
ReplyDeleteIt's so good to hear from you! Glad to hear that your mother is much better.
ReplyDeleteLove the pic of the prairie dog and the snow! I'm envious! And I look forward to hearing those stories!
It's so good to have you back! I can't wait to hear all your exciting stories and book reviews.
ReplyDeleteI feel your dial-up pain. I try to go to wifi spots here but there aren't many. And they all do seem to be full of pervs.
I hope your BK time gets better.
I was actually thinking of you just yesterday as I watched a hawk sitting on a wire and wished I had my camera. Not that I would have taken a decent picture.
ReplyDeleteMy thoughts are with you and your mother as you go through this difficult time.
Glad to hear you are doing well and that your mother is doing better. I'll keep thinking good thoughts for her.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to hear all your stories and thoughts about the books you've read...and that's a cute pic of Violet and your niece! :)
So good to see you posting again! Best wishes to your mom on her recovery and can't wait to hear more of these stories! :)
ReplyDeleteGreat pictures as usual, Bookfool. Be safe.
ReplyDeleteI was just thinking of you and your mom today and hoping you were well. I've been praying for both of you. Have a safe trip home and I can't wait to see more pictures!
ReplyDeleteIt's nice to hear from you! Take care.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to be all caught up! Glad things are going better for you.
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear your mother is doing a bit better. Love the pics of Violet and the animals, particularly the one in the snow.
ReplyDeleteThe stories sound interesting, especially the BKIP.
sending good wishes your way.
Fabulous post and pictures!! I especially like the prairie dog. Oh, and we had snow on Wednesday and Saturday. Isn't it too soon for this??
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to your return to the blogosphere. Keeping you and your mom in my thoughts and prayers. Take good care, Nancy!
SOOOOOO happy to hear that things are going better. Such fine news that your Mom is doing well. We miss you and cannot wait to hear your stories!Be well!!!
ReplyDeleteHope your mother is doing better. Looking forward to hearing your new stories!
ReplyDelete-Amy
Glad your mom's doing better!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad to hear your mother is doing better, looking forward to your stories, and love the photos!
ReplyDeleteHugs for you! I'm gonna hold off sending those review books to your mom's house since I'm a little late on the upswing and I'm afraid you'll leave before they arrive. So, they should be waiting for you when you get home. :)
ReplyDeleteLynne,
ReplyDeleteThank you! I've missed everyone. If I have time to post, again, from Burger King before I leave, I will. :)
Chris,
Hey there, fella! How are you doing?
Thanks, I've been missing y'all. You know, I had to remind myself that there are loads of other poppety-loving people posing poppets around the world, when the brother-in-law made that comment. My niece, nephew and mother were really cute about posing, so it was just him.
Oh, yes, that was my first speeding ticket. I got one warning when I was in college and rushing off to meet my sweetheart (so I can relate to your hurry to see Megan - it was the same thing). I thought the speed limit was 65 on that stretch. It was 55 and I was going 71. So, it will probably cost me a bundle. Darn. If I have time I'll post some stories before I head home - not sure if I will, but I'm working on getting my mother's connection updated. Wahoo for that. :)
Kailana,
Thanks! I've missed everyone and I'm looking forward to going home at the end of the week (for a while, anyway!). I've finished 8 books, now. That's a big wahoo. :)
Wendy,
Thanks! It's a big relief to see my mother actually getting out of her jammies. She's usually quite a spitfire. I miss you guys. Hopefully, I'll be back to blog-hopping when I get home (by Sunday). :)
Chris,
ReplyDeleteThanks you! I do have a few stories to tell, yep. It's interesting coming home. In Oklahoma, just about everything could easily start with, "This friendly person I bumped into told me--" because that has seriously been my experience. I'd forgotten how friendly people are in my hometown!!!!
Hi Nat!
Thank you!! It was so cool to get online and see all the comments. I feel so loved. LOL
The snow was all melted by morning, but I went outside with Violet (in my pajamas) and we had such fun in the snow. You would have loved it! It was very wahooey, if you know what I mean. I've missed you. :)
Hey Nikki!
Well, I'm not entirely back, but soon. I'll be heading home on Friday and Saturday.
Isn't it wild how the wi-fi places draw the perverts? I guess maybe that's one way to avoid being traced if you're doing something bad. For me, Burger King has saved me from going completely nutso. Although, there are obviously a few people who think I'm already there. LOL
I don't think they meant for these BK benches to hold people for long. The heinie gets a little sore after a while. ;)
Jenclair,
ReplyDeleteThat's funny; I just mentioned you to my mother, the other day. I told her about your review of The Spanish Bow, when she was trying to decide which of my books to read, next. She's enjoying the dip into my personal library. I wish I could have seen your hawk! :)
Thanks for thinking of us. My mother's much better, but she'll start chemo, soon, and then she'll be back to feeling like total crap. I'm going to leave things to my sister for a while, though, and return to help out some more, later. I'm about ready for a break!
Bookloversdiary,
Thank you! I appreciate the thoughts. We've got a long way to go, but it's nice seeing my mother gaining strength.
And, thanks. My niece is a doll, isn't she? Just like Violet. LOL
Iliana,
Thank you! It'll be a little under a week till I'm back for good (gotta drive home on Friday and Saturday) but I'll try to post sooner, if I can. CJ and Bonnie warned me to take time for myself. Whew! Glad they said that! I think I've lost weight from eating my own cooking. LOL
Hey Kookie!
Thanks. It's easy to be safe, here. The traffic is unbelievably civil. It's like . . . Maine. Ever been to Maine? They're so polite I wanted to move there immediately.
Heather,
Thanks so much! What a warm, fuzzy feeling to know you were thinking of me. I'll be heading home on Friday and Saturday (breaking up the drive at my inlaws' house, unless I decide it's too gloomy and stay in a hotel). I've missed you guys - it'll be so great to get back to being on the computer at home instead of Burger King!
Tara,
ReplyDeleteThanks!! It's great to hear from you, too! I've been missing everyone. Just one more week. :)
Melanie,
Thanks! Me, too. I want to get caught up and move on. And, I'd really like to be back to emailing from a seat that doesn't feel like a rock. :)
Hi Raidergirl,
Thank you and thank you! The snow was so beautiful!! It was gone by morning, so I was really glad that I couldn't bear to just watch it and gave in to going outside to pose Violet. I think it's the first snow I've seen in 3 years (and that last bit was just flurries spotted in the headlights).
It'll probably be Sunday before I can post my stories, but I'll try to get to it sooner, if I can squeeze in the time. :)
Hi Les!
Isn't that prairie dog a cutie? They're so fun to watch. I think it's impressive that the residents have preserved their little home instead of plowing it under.
Yeah, I think it's a bit early for snow, but I'm so glad I got to see some!!! When I called home to tell the guys it was snowing, William said, "You suck". Meaning, of course, "Unfair!!" Thanks for the continued thoughts and prayers. We'll still be needing them. We've got a long road ahead. :)
Joemamma,
ReplyDeleteThank you so much! I've been thinking about you and hoping you're doing well. :)
Amy,
Thanks! I've missed you guys! :)
Eva,
Thank you! She's doing much, much better. :)
Heather,
Thank you and thank you! It'll probably be Sunday before I'm back to regular posting. Soon, soon. I'm really tired of emailing from a bench that feels like a rock. ;)
Hey Andi!
Thanks for the hugs (!!!) and that's a great idea. I'll be heading home Friday and Saturday, so it makes sense to just send things to MS. Pray I pay attention to the speed limit in Louisiana. Heh. Did you get my review of "Powers"?
Glad all is well! 7 reviews...sheesh; I had 3 last week and almost went crazy. Great pictures!
ReplyDeleteSnow!
ReplyDeleteTrish,
ReplyDeleteWell, all's not well but it's better at the moment. LOL I'll be driving a lot, the next 6 months or so. When I update, they'll be quickie reviews. The best news is that I found the time to get my personal book log updated. I was stuck at #80 - about 24 reviews behind - but I'm all caught up. Whew!
Hey Carrie!
Wasn't it pretty? Violet had fun dancing in the snow. Good thing we went out while it was still coming down because it was gone by morning.
Glad to hear that things are going better. I can't wait to hear about the turkey!
ReplyDeleteStephanie
www.thewrittenword.wordpress.com
Yep! Got the review! Thank ya, ma'am.
ReplyDeleteAndi
Stephanie,
ReplyDeleteThe turkey was a hoot. Huh, that just sounds wrong, doesn't it? ;)
Andi,
Great, thanks!!!
You know, don't you, that the other poppets will be very jealous when they learn what Violet did on your trip? And she has seen snow! Since snow is not a regular occurance in many parts of Mississippi, they may go for years without ever seeing such a sight!
ReplyDeleteI hope your mother is doing well. And you, too, of course. I miss you and look forward to the day you return to blogworld on a regular basis.
I wish you were about to cross the finish line with me tomorrow. I stopped writing for today because I now have 49,258 words.
I have so missed your posts...and pictures!! Wonderful to hear that your mom is doing better. Sorry to hear about the Burger King pervs. But hey. It's an experience, right??
ReplyDeleteCan't wait till things settle down for you.
Bonnie,
ReplyDeleteI thought the same thing about the poppets. Yeah, they'll have a long wait if I don't haul them somewhere north in the winter!!
My mom is doing okay. Yesterday was her first day of chemo and it was a rough one; it took 10 attempts to find a vein and she was in tears, by the time they quit poking her (so they gave her some ativan and a nice, fuzzy free blankie from a drug company, both of which happied her up nicely). Today was much better. I'm tired and will be coming home a wee bit later, since she had a last-minute change to her treatment - three days in a row instead of one day, yuck.
Wowee, you've done great on Nano! Congratulations! I wish I was there with you, too, but at least I had a premonition that I wouldn't finish this year. That helped. There's always 2008, right? :)
Stephanie,
Awww, thanks! That's so sweet! I'll be home a little later than expected, but we're doing okay. It's going to be a long 6 months for my mother and I'll be back and forth, so posting will probably continue to be irregular, darn it. I've missed everyone!!!
Oh, yeah, Burger King pervs are "material". LOL I've got another story, too - about the guy in Panera. And, would you believe I've got my mom counting hawks on the 2-hour drive to her chemo? LOL
We've missed you, Nancy! I'm so glad your mother is doing better. Looking forward to your stories and hearing about the books you've been reading!
ReplyDeleteBest wishes,
Robin
I look forward to the Upside-down Turkey story!
ReplyDeleteOoh...Violet is adorable. Looking forward to more of her travelogues in the House. Have been away for so long and I see I've missed some important news. Hope all's well now. Be well too.
ReplyDeleteHi Robin!
ReplyDeleteThanks, I've missed you and the rest of the bloggy world, too. I'm only home temporarily, unfortunately; I'll be going back and forth between Oklahoma and Mississippi for about 6 months. But, I'm going to try my darndest to post, tomorrow, between unpacking and cleaning. You should see what my husband did to the house in my absence. Or, no . . . maybe not. It is *terrifying*. 'Nuff said. :)
Maggie,
I'll post my photo of Violet and turkey, when I have time; it was really cute. I came home with loads of story material (just got home, today - Monday, I think . . . it's been a long month).
Indigo,
Thanks. I'm sure Violet would thank you, too, but she's still packed. I'm really beat; I've driven about 1000 miles this week (literally - actually, probably more than that) but I hope to update, tomorrow, in between cleaning the titanic mess my husband made.
