Wave, wave -- last hello from Oklahoma

First, a photo of a baby mockingbird, when he was still at the stage of mostly hopping and flying just a few feet at a time. Parent Mockingbird had just fed him a bug and I thought Baby almost looked like he was thinking, "I wanna do that!"

Book-wise, a very important update. I neglected to include a website URL for Peter Bowerman's book, The Well-Fed Publisher, so here it is.

I'm currently reading the first of the Mitford series by Jan Karon (from my mother's shelves) and Human Voices by Penelope Fitgerald and loving both. I finished a couple of books, but I can't remember the titles -- couldn't sleep last night and look like I've been in a fist fight. So, I'll update when I return home to Mississippi, in a few days. Smiles to everyone!

  2. I really like the baby mockingbird picture.

Speaking of birds, I guess you've seen the Oklahoma quarter, right? It's great!

  4. My aunt lent me copies of several of the Mitford books, and I enjoyed them very much. They were relaxing and funny.

  8. Andiloo,

Thanks, darlin'. I made it back fine! Now, I've got to clean up after two very messy men and catch up on some shut-eye. :)

    Bybee,

Thanks, isn't he sweet? My mom's house has a terrific bay window that juts right out into her backyard, so I sometimes just sat and watched the birds and bunnies.

Yep, I've seen the quarter! Love those scissor-tails! I think it's very fitting. :)

    Hi Nikki!

Thanks! I had a great trip home. The traffic was remarkably sane and the weather was great. :)

  9. Jenclair,

I brought my mother's entire Mitford collection home because I'm loving the first in the series. "Relaxing and funny" is a perfect description. I haven't gotten very far (about 100 pages), but I'm finding Mitford is a great place for a reading vacation. :)

    Debi,

Thanks! I had such fun watching the baby mockingbird! I'm pretty sure I got to see him on his first big jaunt from the nest -- he was just hopping and stretching his wings the first time I spotted him. By the time I left (I'm home -- thanks, the trip was great!) he was flying well and his beak was darkening. It was so cool watching him grow!!!

    Hi Nat!

Thanks, I had a really easy drive home. The traffic was unusually calm, so I'm tired but not miserable from the drive. I'll betcha I'll sleep well, though. :)

    Hi Carrie!

    Thanks! Isn't he a cutie?

I had a great drive. Now, to unpack and clean up after the guys. Hubby forgot absolutely everything he promised he'd do -- take the bills to the mailbox, return the library books, water the plants, sweep the porch. Sigh. It's nice to be home, anyway. :)
