10 Things Meme

10 Things I Love Beginning With the Letter M

I asked Chartroose for a letter because she's cool and it was her hilarious post that made me decide I needed to participate in this meme.

1. Mountains - I always wanted to live in the mountains. Half of my relatives have moved to Colorado, one moved to the mountainous joy of New Zealand and I got stuck sweating in the Deep South, where I'm basically allergic to everything. I haven't given up on my dream to live in the mountains, though. If they can find a way . . .

2. Modern Art - Two favorites:

3. Malfeasance. Miffed. Munchkin. Monstrosity. Mellifluous. Malapropism. Muggles. Megalomaniac. Molybdenum. There are a lot of cool "m" words.

4. Mr. Darcy in the form of Colin Firth, wet or dry. Although, honestly, wet is by far my favorite. Here's a dry shot:

5. Michigan - I lived there for a year and I loved my life in Ann Arbor so much I didn't want to leave, but I had no choice because the husband's employer was in another 'M' word, Mississippi.

6. Millefiore - So, so pretty.

7. Music - A wide variety. I'm getting tired of this meme, already, so I'll just skip listing anything or anyone specific, except for Rich Mullins. Rich was and is definitely one of my all-time favorite Musicians, although he's disappointingly dead and that makes it difficult to get any more great music out of him.

8. Mammals - Love furry things. Have a flying squirrel. I think they're just awesome.

9. Meteor showers. Mica. The Moon. Moonstone (the rainbow kind).

10. Muscle relaxants - because the old neck is spasming, again, and I am not a happy camper. Fortunately, this is a common problem for me and I have some muscle relaxants on hand. Thank you, Lord.

I agree - Chartroose is cool. Your list is hilarious as well, but I think you need to work on your attention span. This meme is a lot of fun.

MMmmm MMMmmmmmm GOOD! I'm off now to go look up Molybdenum...

  3. Kathy,

I do have a short attention span. When I first got my letter M, I wrote down a bunch of ideas and then promptly misplaced the little post-it note I wrote them down upon, so I was struggling a bit.

    Care,

Why, thank you. I'll just let you look up molybdenum, instead of defining it for you, so I don't ruin your fun. :)

  4. I absolutely love, love, love squirrels. We're lucky to have a tree that they chase each other around in. Every once in a while, they run across the sill of our big front window, much to the delight of my kitty! Everyone thinks my squirrel love is nutty. lol.

  5. Lisa,

We're in a heavily forested little neighborhood, built in the days when they didn't just rip down all the trees but built around them, instead. Our trees are so full of life. It's not unusual for us to walk out the door and see three or four squirrels hanging around, munching on the acorns. They're everywhere! I love them, except when they're making that noise that means, "I'm chewing you out." Very annoying.

Not many people like squirrels, yep. My brother-in-law told me they had a family of squirrels living in their backyard, a couple years ago, and the babies played like kittens. Wouldn't that have been fun to watch?

  6. I think I'd love to live in the mountains, too. I almost moved to Montana once, but it didn't work out and I ended up back in Pennsylvania which has its good points, but it's no Montana or Colorado. If you move, take me with you, mmmmkay? ;-)

  7. Megan,

You can go with me. We'll sit around on our decks, swapping books. Speaking of which, I have packed your books but I haven't mailed them. My apologies. If I don't get them shipped by the end of the week, I'll just drive to Pennsylvania, okay?

  8. What? Melissa didn't make your list?? I'm crushed :-)

I am about 100 pages into Austenland--it's so cute!

  9. I am not really a mountains girl. I perfer the beach but I am definatly with you on Mr. Darcy. :)

  10. Great M list. Love your M things. Mr. Darcy, wet, especially. Also the Hockney. Thanks for sharing :)

  11. Melissa,

    It doesn't mean I don't love ya. It means I'm forgetful. :)

I knew you'd be crazy about Austenland!

    Brittanie,

I'm way too pale to be a beach girl, but as a child I got to travel to Colorado regularly so the mountains have always been near and dear to my heart.

    Gentle Reader,

Thank you. I'm pretty sure wet Mr. Darcy really belongs in a frame on my office wall. I got to see Mr. & Mrs. Clark and Percy in Tate Modern (and the Lichtenstein, as well) when I went to London at 17. Till then, I was thoroughly convinced I didn't like modern art. Hockney reformed me. :)

I'm laughing at the fact that Mississippi isn't on your list. My dad's family is from MS...I'm the only one that has never been back to meet the relatives. And I'm starting to think it's not such a bad thing.

And I'm not shunning you on facebook....I just can't find you! I'm Jill Powers (Central Coast CA) if you still want to be my friend. :-D

  13. Totally agree about Mr. Darcy. I love Colin Firth. He's dreamy. :)

  14. Softdrink,

I'll look you up on Facebook, tomorrow. I'm weary, at the moment.

Really? Where in Mississippi? I suffer from the fact that I'm not a native and we're not what you could call "embraced" in Vicksburg. They even have a name for us: Outsiders. Lovely.

    Anna,

    LOL Yep, definitely dreamy. :)

  15. Your mountain picture makes me really excited because I'm actually going to the mountains of Colorado in 2 1/2 weeks! (sorry...not trying to rub it in). I love furry things too-aren't squirrels neat animals?! If they weren't so fast, I would love to catch and pet one.

  16. Love the mountains, too! That's one of the reasons I live in Utah. The other is that my husband won't move to Oregon.

I feel the same way about Iz as you do about your 'M' music man. Going to check him out right now on amazon to see if I need to download some tunes.

Hope your neck gets feeling better real soon.

  17. I love most of these things too! I'm not a big fan of Colin Firth when he's wet...or dry for that matter :p But I do enjoy everything else! Especially that little squirrel!

  18. Great shot of the squirrel!!

I love mountains, too! Hope we both get to live near some one of these days.

  19. Laura,

It's okay; I'm pretty much adjusted to the fact that I used to be the envy of everyone and now everyone else is going to Colorado while I just dream about it. LOL Have fun on your trip. Squirrels are really cute, but I've heard they bite hard so I just admire them from a distance! :)

    Booklogged,

I'd be willing to give Utah a try. My husband's field is kind of narrow; he can't go just anywhere unless he decided to teach at university level -- which I've tried to talk him into, but he seems to know just a little too much about the difficulties of academia (from the head of his dissertation committee, who went through quite a battle but did eventually get tenure).

Rich Mullins is actually the only musician my entire family loves -- even my picky eldest (who is much like the protagonist in High Fidelity, a total music snob). I hope you like him.

My neck is much improved, today, thanks. It's a problem I've had since I injured it in college and usually takes about 2 weeks of muscle relaxants and ibuprofen to resolve. I'm very fortunate to have what I need on hand.

  20. Chris,

I'm glad you clarified that Colin Firth doesn't do anything for you, wet or dry. LOL Isn't the squirrel photo fun? I thought about drawing a cape because he looks like Super Squirrel to me, but I took a painkiller, instead.

    Les,

Thank you! You can see the companion photo at Animus3, today.

I don't know how I'll work it, but someday I really do want to live in a mountainous region. It might end up being a retirement thing.

  21. Great list! This is a fun meme.

  22. Kailana,

Isn't it fun? There's a lot of leeway when you just give people a letter of the alphabet. I've had fun reading this one.

    ReplyDelete
  23. You just HAD to include Mr. Darcy, huh--just for the Collin Firth picture, I'm sure. There are definitely a lot of fun M words!

    ReplyDelete
  24. Trish,

My first thought was "MEN". Hahaha. That would have been a nice, open-ended category. But, then I decided to just stick with one fellow and Mr. Darcy is a serious stretch but I figured the M in "Mr." qualified him. I'll sneak him in any time I can get away with it!! You bet!
