Not only is most of the snow gone (exception: a few shady spots), it was warm enough to throw open the windows, today. I'll bet you snowbound Northerners are thinking maybe Mississippi might be a good place to vacation in February, yes? Well, you'd be right. Our daffodils are on the verge of blooming and the first purple martins have been spotted nesting, both of which are harbingers of spring. We're supposed to hit 70 degrees (Fahrenheit) by Wednesday.
And, to think . . . just yesterday the poppets were having a blast, ice skating!

We missed the snow and ice this time, thankfully. It looks like Fi and Izzy want to go outside!
ReplyDeleteI just found out what I'm buying for my January give-to-myself. A poppet.
ReplyDeleteKathy,
ReplyDeleteWe were happy to have it, although Kiddo was not thrilled that college was open. The local school district was closed. His drive was fine, though -- nice and dry.
Yes, Fi and Izzy want to go outside but I'm a big meanie and won't let them. We have dangerous loose dogs and almost lost our Miss Spooky to a dog attack, once. The fur girls are stuck indoors. I open windows whenever possible so they can enjoy the smells and sounds of outdoors. They do seem to love that.
Andrea,
Oh, definitely go for it. You can find them at eBay, I think. You might want to buy it for February, though, unless you're making up for lost time--and in that case, you probably need 2 of them. ;)
Poppets!!!!
ReplyDeleteLove the one of Fi and Izzy scoping out what's going on outside.
SuziQ,
ReplyDeleteYes! Poppets!!! Snow always reminds me to bring them out of their hiding place. :)
Thanks!! I opened the door, pulled up the window and said, "Okay, you can look out." Izzy came running but Fi hesitated for a second. I assured her it was fine to join Izzy and she gave me a, "Well, okay then," look and spent quite some time looking and sniffing. So cute!!
I've missed the poppets. Glad to see them make an appearance.
ReplyDeleteBonnie,
ReplyDeleteYes, I figured you'd be excited to see them. :) I forget they're around, but for some reason I always remember to drag them out when it snows.
About the Elizabeth Berg books you've read, I've posted her entire book list here:

Bonnie,
ReplyDeleteYes, I saw that but I've got quite a few of her books and without a cover to jog my memory, I just couldn't figure out which one I'd read and which are on the stacks. I know that's nutty. The one I can't remember was about a man who is hit on the head and goes into a coma. His wife brings him all sorts of good-smelling food to try to get him to wake up. I don't even remember whether or not I liked it!! I guess it's been a while, though.
Well hello poppets...long time no see!
ReplyDeleteViolet and Noelle say, "Hello, Softdrink! We've never seen you but we like you very much."
ReplyDeleteSilly poppets.
We need to have some thawing soon, or when the spring thaw comes we are going to be flooded!
ReplyDeleteAre we ready for Spring, yet? Cold here this morning, but looking forward to the promised Spring-like temps!
ReplyDeleteKelly,
ReplyDeleteI thought about that when our local weatherman was in Missouri, where they got something on the order of 2 feet of snow. What if it all melts at once? Ooooh, that would be awful. I'm sure it would be 10 times as bad where you're living. Fingers crossed you have a slow, sporadic melt and no flooding!!!
Jenclair,
I do believe we're on the verge. It's already in the upper 40's, here, this morning. We should hit 60 or higher and with the sun shining it's going to be a beautiful day. We're getting set to get back to work on painting my office. A sunny day is just what we needed!
Silly poppets, ice is for Illinois!
ReplyDelete(Love the imagined conversation the kitties are having. "Where did all our sneaux go?")
Bellezza,
ReplyDeleteHaha! Yes, it is! We almost never see ice. It was quite a sight to wake up to, really. :)
LOL I'm really curious what the kitties would have thought of snow if I'd let them play in it. But, that wasn't going to happen. If they get a taste of the outdoors, I'm afraid they'll want to keep going out, so in they stay.
Not sure how warm we got yesterday (high 60s--maybe low 70s), but I took advantage by going on a walk. I was thrilled to see that the Bradford Pears are starting to bud. It's just around the corner...can't wait.
ReplyDeleteI'm so jealous of the 70 degrees! We won't see weather that warm for a couple more months at least.
ReplyDeleteTrish,
ReplyDeleteWe got into the 60s. It's lovely, isn't it? I wish I could get excited about spring like everyone else, but I can't. I have horrible allergies and spring is just flat miserable. That's one of the main reasons I'd be perfectly happy to live somewhere with a 7-month winter instead of a 7-month summer.
Alyce,
ReplyDeleteI'd be perfectly willing to trade with you, if it was at all possible! I like temps around 75 and under and here I am in a state with a 7-month summer. You can have it!!!
Oh! It's been quite a while since I've seen the Poppets!! Thanks for putting a smile on my face. :)
