Fiona Friday and some news, bookish and otherwise

First, your Fiona fix:

And, the big news!

We have been house-hunting for about 2 years, now, and finally put in an offer on a house. It was accepted, yesterday! So, in the coming months we'll be doing all that yucky paperwork and forking over hard-earned money, then we'll paint a bit in the new house and start moving. It's going to be a slow process because our current home needs work to make it market-ready. I can't say how much moving will impact the blogging, but I'm guessing it'll just be a bit longer between posts. I'll still blog when I can and do my best to visit other bloggers if I have any spare time at all.

Recently walked in:

Jack's Book: An Oral Biography of Jack Kerouac by Gifford & Lee - a win from BookTrib
The Knights of Derbyshire by Marsha Altman - for review (OK, so I did give in once - otherwise, I'm not accepting review books)
Forbidden by Syrie & Ryan James - won from Alyce of At Home With Books
Spark by Amy Kathleen Ryan - ARC sent by my lovely friend, Tammy

I've already finished Forbidden, which just arrived a few days ago. Will review when I have a moment. Happy Friday!

  1. CONGRATULATIONS!!! House hunting is SO stressful. Will you be posting home tours when you move in? (Loooove when bloggers do that!) :)

    1. Thanks! We actually had a pretty laid-back house-hunting experience because we were in no hurry. The stressful part, to me, is when you have to start handing over large chunks of money to everyone involved in the buying process. Oh, how I hate that part.

I don't know about a tour but I'm sure I'll take lots of pictures when we move in! It's going to be a slow process, though. I want to do a little painting before we move in because it's easier to do that when there's no furniture in the way! :)

  2. Moving, so exciting! I think I'd rather just move furniture from room to room.

    1. I've done plenty of that, over the years. It'll be nice for the change of pace and the sidewalks. We don't have sidewalks, here. They have leash laws, too! And, I'll be literally down the road from a private college, so I can take classes! Squeeeee!

  3. Congrats on the new house! I hope you're happy there and that all the paper work, moving etc. goes well.

Um, is that Fiona's expression when she got the news about moving? ;)

    1. Thanks, Jenny! So far, so good. Except, I didn't know they were actually going to cash the earnest money check. Good thing I have enough in that account. I thought they were just going to hold it!!

Uh-oh. I haven't actually told the kitties, yet! LOL I'm sure they'll be freaked when we take them there, but it'll be a while. Lots to do before we move into that house permanently. We'll be dashing back and forth for at least a few months.

  5. !!!!!!!!! This is such fantastic news Nancy :D :D :D I think I'm actually going to go look at a house tomorrow that peaked my interest :) So is this a house of your dreams type of house?? Oh I can't wait to see it!!!! So excited for you!!! Any chance you're moving further south? :p You know, even five minutes brings you closer to me :p Anyway, congratulations!!!!!

    1. Thanks, Chris! No, it's not entirely my dream house. But, it's close. It has a covered patio that could easily be screened in, a small deck, a large kitchen, a formal dining room (something I have never had anywhere - not even in the house I grew up in) and a walk-up attic that's also got potential for being framed in. But, that won't happen right away. I'm happiest about the patio (a place to read when it's cool!!!!) and the kitchen because I really want to get back to cooking. You'll love my kitchen.

Oh, um, we're moving to Clinton - closer to Jackson. It's farther away, unless you come up the middle of the state and then it's just a 15 minute dash west on I-20. You ARE coming to visit, when I'm settled in. We might actually even have to cook something. LOL

  6. Congrats on the House! Buying one & moving can be stressful but trying to sell a house is worse! good luck, hope it is a smooth & good transition

    1. Thanks! Yes, I'm actually kind of looking forward to the moving process but not the buying part. :) Selling sucks. We've got work to do on this house before we sell, but fortunately it's paid for, so we didn't have to get the house sold before buying a new one.

    1. Thanks, Joy!

There's no big move-in day, actually. We close the second week of July and then we're going to paint in the new house and slowly start moving furniture over. Sometime in late July or August, we have to move Kiddo up to Oxford, MS (he'll be attending the University of Mississippi). And, then we'll be working on fixing up our current house to sell. The next 6 months or so are going to be really interesting! LOL

Thanks! I have very sweet kitties. I'm lucky they don't mind me too much. :)
