Monday Malarkey - The "OMG, look at all those books" edition

As far as I know, the following photos include most, if not all, the books I've received since we moved in July, excluding any I may have already reviewed (and possibly a few that arrived at the old house, which I may have neglected writing about 'cause I've been a bit overwhelmed, here).

Photo 1 - Children's Books for review (I'll be doing a "Children's Day", this week soon):

Puff the Magic Dragon by Yarrow, Lipton & Puybaret - from Sterling Kids
Who's Looking at You? by Stephane Frattini - from Sterling Kids
Tushes and Tails by Stephane Frattini - from Sterling Kids
Are You My Friend, Today? by Fujikawa - from Sterling Kids
Being Frank by Earnhardt & Castellani - from Flashlight Press

Photo 2 - Christmas Books, all purchased by me (any other suggestions for quick, holiday reading worth discussing are welcome - I'm checking out a number of Christmas books because I've been asked to choose my F2F group's December holiday read):

A Christmas Memory by Truman Capote
A Child's Christmas in Wales by Dylan Thomas
Miracle and Other Christmas Stories by Connie Willis

Not pictured:  Lola's Secret by Monica McInerney, an e-galley for tour with TLC Book Tours from Ballantine Books

Photo 3 - Miscellaneous arrivals:

Lucy by Ellen Feldman - from my wonderful friend, Paula
Paris, I Love You But You're Bringing Me Down by Rosecrans Baldwin - a win from Southern Festival of Books (via Facebook)

Photo 4 - Paperback Swap arrivals:

Lady Almina and the Real Downton Abbey by The Countess of Carnarvon
Mrs. Palfrey at the Claremont by Elizabeth Taylor
French Leave by Anna Gavalda
Hex Hall by Rachel Hawkins
Skeletons at the Feast by Chris Bohjalian
The Elegance of the Hedgehog by Muriel Barbery (for F2F discussion in Oct.)
The Lifeboat by Charlotte Rogan
The List by Martin Fletcher

And, a few for review.  I can see that I overlooked a few that I set by the bed.

Photo 4 - for review:

The Longest Way Home by Andrew McCarthy - from Free Press
Comet's Tale by Steven D. Wolf w/L. Padwa - from Algonquin Books
A Walk in the Park by Jill Mansell - from Sourcebooks
The Amish Family Cookbook by Jerry & Tina Eicher - for FirstWild Card Tour

Not pictured:

The Art Forger by B. A. Shapiro - from Algonquin Books
Following Atticus by Tom Ryan - from Wm Morrow
The Dark Unwinding by Sharon Cameron - from Scholastic Press via Shelf Awareness
The White Forest by Adam McOmber - from Touchstone

Now you understand the subject line, eh?  :)  Some of the review books were unsolicited but I plan to read them all.

    1. I've already read it and enjoyed it. Cute illustrations and if you grew up with the song, you can't help but mentally sing it while you read!

    1. I make it a practice not to read book reviews when I'm planning to read a book soon, so I'll have to pass over your review, for now, but I did peek at your rating. Glad to see you gave it a 4/5!!

  4. THAT is a lot of books! Way to go. I've had Hex Hall on my shelf for ages. One day I'll read it.

    1. It certainly is! The good news is that I've already read 6 of them. The bad news is that most of them were children's books. LOL I'll get there.

I don't know where I heard about Hex Hall. I think it must have been on my wish list for quite a while. It looks fun. I hope we both get to it soon!

  5. I have really wanted to read Skeleton's at the Feast for some time now, but haven't gotten myself a copy. It looks like you got a great haul of books there, and I am really admiring a few of them!! Read on!

    1. I must have just gotten on at the right moment because I went straight to Paperback Swap to order a copy and got one. It's a beat-up mess, but I'm just going to read it and pass it on, anyway.

Thanks! It's a pretty terrific haul, all right. Believe it or not, there were a few weeks that I got absolutely nothing -- including regular mail. It was really freaky.

    1. Lucy does have an intriguing cover, doesn't it? I've read all of the children's books. Naturally, I have favorites, but I like them all. Children's books are my guilty pleasure. :)

  8. I adord Mrs. Palfrey at the Claremont. I was looking at the Booker list to see how many I had read and it was either nom'd or won, I don't remeber already. movie wasn't bad either.

    1. Carrie,

I added Mrs. Palfrey to my wishlist because of you. Took a while to get a copy. I'll have to look up the Booker list. I never think to deliberately read prize-winning novels/books, although I bought a book of short stories that won the National Book Award, today: Among the Missing by Dan Chaon.

  9. I'll be curious of your thoughts on the Art Forger and Lifeboat. Quite a stash of books, good luck.

    1. I enjoyed The Lifeboat, although I'm not quite sure what to say about it. Friend Tammy at Under a Blood Red Sky called it a "unique spin on a sinking ship disaster". Definitely agree with that. It's unique and very compelling -- a nice, quick read, also. I gave it a 4/5 at Goodreads and hope to review it soon, but I'm having trouble fitting in blogging so it may take me a couple weeks to get to it. Looking forward to The Art Forger and hoping I'll get to it soon!!!

  10. I enjoyed Capote's A Christmas Memory much more so than Breakfast at Tiffany's. I've never read A Child's Christmas in Wales and really should. Maybe this December...

I'll be interested to hear what you think of The Elegance of the Hedgehog. I couldn't get into the print version, but loved the audio!

Still owe you an email... !

    1. I haven't read Breakfast at Tiffany's, yet, but I absolutely loved A Christmas Memory and A Child's Christmas in Wales is great.

I hope I can get to The Elegance of the Hedgehog in time. I'm way overwhelmed, here.

      No hurry. :)
