I'm working on it, I promise!

Can't sleep so I decided I might as well quickly type an update.  I'm working diligently on my Life After Life review and F2F report.  I know a lot of you are anxious to read about Life After Life but it's one of those books I loved so much that I'm all agitated about the need to do it justice.  So, I'm taking my time, hacking away at it, bit by bit.  I may have to break the Life After Life post into 2 parts because our group discussion was so amazing that there's plenty to say about that, as well.  There may be a post or two before then. I've got a tour to post on Thursday and at the rate I'm going . . . well.

Permission to whine at me in the comment section, granted.

In the meantime . . . books that have walked in:

Legacy of Rescue:  A Daughter's Tribute by Marta Fuchs (Holocaust memoir, for review)
Serving Victoria by Kate Hubbard - It probably involved a lot of bowing and scraping and, "Yes, Your Majesty."
Pain, Parties, Work by Elizabeth Winder - About poor, miserable Sylvia Plath.  Hope it's not too depressing.
Frozen in Time by Mitchell Zuckoff: An Epic Story of Survival and a Modern Quest for Lost Heroes of WWII - Kind of speaks for itself with that massive subtitle, eh?

The latter 3 are ARCs from Harper.  It doesn't sound like the arrivals are lightening up, does it?  I'm trying.  It's possible I'm an addict.  Is there a 12-step program for ARC addiction?  If so, please tell me you must go somewhere excessively cool like a windswept Irish coastal village or a villa in Italy to be cured.

Funny cat story of the day:

After I brought in a fresh, clean litter box, Isabel tried to dig a tunnel to China.  She literally put her front paws into the box and started digging, flinging litter everywhere.  I just stood there, a little dumbfounded, but then she jumped into the litter box and started turning circles.  First time in my life I've ever chased a cat out of a litter box!

The photo above is just a picture of a helicopter in gorgeous puffy clouds that made me think about the sheep I need to be counting.

Back to bed.  I'm reading The India Fan by Victoria Holt and enjoying it.  What are you reading?

  1. I've stopped requesting ARCs from Shelf Awareness, but I can't resist the ones that come into work on a daily basis! I added 9 to my stacks in February! I may have to rent a villa in Italy to find time just to read them. ;)

Currently reading (and loving) Broken Harbor by Tana French.

    Happy Wednesday!

    1. Shelf Awareness is the easiest to give up because you can just stop getting the newsletter or delete it quickly. I gave that up, over a year ago. But, I'm still getting tons of requests. And, so many of them sound wonderful!!! Argh!!

If there's not a 12-step program, I am fine and dandy with renting a villa to catch up on the reading. Yes, indeed.

I haven't ever read anything by Tana French. She gets gushy reviews but I tend to not like her chosen genre. Maybe someday I'll give her a try. Thanks! Happy Wednesday to you, too! May your day be full of wahoos!

  2. I have an ARC addiction as well, and can't seem to stop myself with them. It's getting to overload status!

I am listening to Olive Kitteridge, and reading REconstructing Jackson.

    1. I'm less burdened by quantity than by the fact that the vast majority of books I've currently got waiting on my stacks are over 400 pages. In face, NOS4A2 by Joe Hill just walked in. 700 pages. Damn. Someone impulsively accepted a book without bothering to look up the page count. I'm looking forward to it, though, so I'll just do my best to get to it as soon as time allows.

Oh, Olive Kitteridge! I was offered a book by that author but I haven't read Olive Kitteridge and didn't want to have to read two in a row, so I passed it up. I haven't heard of Reconstructing Jackson. Enjoy your reading!!!

  3. I don't even get ARCs but I can imagine the addiction. My cat gets so happy when I change out her kitty litter that she runs out of it and trails it every where.

    1. It's like having a little bit of Christmas showing up on your doorstep, year round, Jenny. Very addictive, regularly receiving parcels. I occasionally shut ARC arrivals down completely and I miss them!!!

I've only caught my cat acting totally crazy in the litter box one other time. She did something similar -- started flinging litter everywhere. But, then she popped straight up in the air, did a 180 (literally while she was in flight) and landed in the box facing me. I laughed so hard I had to leave the room for fear of scaring the fur right off of her.

  4. I was obsessed with Victoria Holt when I was a teen. After awhile though, they all started to sound the same. I really should read her again.

    1. I think a lot of us were obsessed with Victoria Holt. And, yes, anything even vaguely romantic was a bit on the formulaic side, back then, as I recall. I'm enjoying The India Fan but I haven't had much reading time and it's taking me forever!!!
