Blogging Mojo AWOL

My blogging mojo has gone totally AWOL, this week.  I have 5 or 6 partial reviews written but haven't finished any of them.  Since I've found it's best not to force the writing if I don't feel like doing it, I'll just post something when I get a review written.  In the meantime, I thought you might like to see what I've been doing:

It's been warm and muggy but the mosquitoes aren't out, yet, so I've been spending a lot of time out on the patio, watching the birds (and occasionally -- but not always -- photographing them).  The photos above are all pictures I've taken since Monday.  This week's the first time we've had a definite hummingbird sighting (although we suspected that we were buzzed by one, a week or two ago).  Very exciting to see them back!  Hummingbirds are tremendous fun to watch.

Hope you're all having a terrific week!

  1. What are the other bird species? Is the bottom left a titmouse? and the top right I'm sure I've seen in my own yard but don't know its name.

    1. Yes, that's a titmouse. The others are, clockwise, a white-throated sparrow, purple grosbeak and ruby-throated hummingbird. It's so fun to just sit and watch them flit around, fight with each other and eat. :)

  2. You are so lucky to have such interesting birds around you. We have a pair of very devoted cardinals, who have a nest in our tree in the back and a few pipsqueaks, but that's about it. We had a crow for awhile, and he was so smart. We would leave whole unshelled peanuts in the yard, and he would leave them to soak in the birdbath until they were easy to open. Such fascinating creatures, birds are.

    1. We are fortunate, Heather! At our new house, the previous owner planted 6 trees and a couple large shrubs not far from the deck, so it's a natural place for birds to hang out. And, now that I'm feeding them regularly, we're getting quite a variety. We get a ton of cardinals -- which I never tire of. They're so, so pretty. We also have some other regulars: carolina wrens, mourning doves, a squillion finches, a red-headed woodpecker (we have no old trees but the neighbors do) and a hawk that occasionally swoops through. We had a flock of cedar waxwings for a while, too! I think they've gone to summer digs, though.

  3. Don't force yourself to write reviews.... it makes you hate doing it even more.

Love the pictures, and I'm thinking I'm jealous of your camera.

    1. I'm not, Ryan. You are so right. If I force myself, I either end up staring at the screen doing nothing or I just make myself angry or decide I must quit blogging (which I always get over after a little break). So, gardening and bird-watching it is. :)

Thanks! My camera's okay. It's a step down from my Sony, which was professional-grade but had some problems. Most important thing with this one seems to be setting the ISO low for better quality and being really, really patient. You can take a lot of bad bird photos for every one that turns out. :)

  4. I always count it as a blessing when I get to see a hummingbird :) It's so rare that you do get a little glimpse of them and they're such marvelous little creatures! These pictures are GORGEOUS Nancy!!! I'm so jealous of all of the beautiful birds you have around you!!! And I'm totally with you on the blogging mojo :/ I'm just blogging these days whenever I feel like I have something to write about :p

    1. Me, too, Chris! Hummingbird sightings are like . . . spotting fairies. They're magical and don't happen as often as you'd like (ever, actually, with the fairies). Thanks! We're fortunate to have quite a variety showing up, here. The previous homeowners planted a large number of small trees by the deck, so there are times we go outside and it feels like we've just walked into a bird sanctuary, judging from the music coming from the trees.

I need to do what you're doing and just go with the flow. Writing a bunch of posts when I'm in the mood to write seems to work best for me. I'm not bipolar but my writing style certainly is. Either I'm on or off. This week, the OFF sign is bright red. Hopefully, next week we'll have a green ON sign flickering. Fingers crossed.

    1. Ha! Sorry yours is gone, too, Marg. Mine comes and goes. Taking a few days off, now and then, seems to help.
