Daymaking and Estella Coolness

First things first (because Stephen Covey insists that's the order I must use):

The latest issue of Estella's Revenge has been available for your reading pleasure since the first of February (I'm just slow to post). Squeee! Go soak up some Estella coolness. You'll be glad you did. Also . . . weird . . . my Estella button has disappeared. I still have the HTML encoding in my sidebar, but the button isn't showing up. Has anyone else had this problem? I'm not sure what to do about it.

Both Heather and Eva tagged me for the You Make My Day Award. Eva has since commented on the bloggerly "lovefest" that this award has sparked and I must admit I've been enjoying the posts. Thanks, Eva and Heather!! Sorry for the delay. I've recently observed that I'm tremendously disappointed when bloggers don't tag specific other bloggers to carry on the awards (and I've done that; it gets more difficult to narrow down to just a few, each time) so this time I'll make a point of tagging, although I'm going to save that for a separate post because I'm a little pressed for time.

On Saturday we were in Cleveland, MS, attending a swim meet at Delta State University. I'll do a separate post on that, later, also. But, I have to tell you we really enjoyed the fact that the meet was a small one, so there was room to find a relatively quiet corner to read. I zipped through half of Anonymous Lawyer by Jeremy Blachman and finished it up at home, Saturday night. This morning, I finished reading Sailing Alone Around the World by Captain Joshua Slocum. So, February is looking like it may end up a decent reading month.

In other good news, this blog has not been getting hits based on the "family-friendly blog" post I added, just out of curiosity (to see whether adding a few words and names effected my keyword activity). I'll remove that post when I have a moment, but I've been very pleased to note that almost all of the keyword activity I've read, when I've gone to check my stats, has been in reference to book titles, poems, author names or generally harmless, often book-related, key words. Yippee for that!

Photos of swim meet and a few anecdotes will be forthcoming. In the meantime, here's my favorite sight at the swim meet (except for watching my delightful youngest child swim, of course):
It was a joy to behold.

More later!

  1. I tagged you on Thursday for the You Make My Day Award, here:
    http://bonniesbooks.blogspot.com/2008/01/oops-i-missed-bbs-anniversary.html

And I said good things about you ... and about the poppets, too. Did my message get lost? I know I came here and told you about it. I'm sure I did ... I think.

And yes, I lost an HTML thingy from my sidebar recently, my word-a-day.

  2. I think I'm going to go back and do a "you make my day" post too...I feel guilty now for not passing the award along :p I've been thinking of it every day since I got it! Congrats on yours! I couldn't agree more with Eva and Heather :) You make my day too Nancy!

I got my first "Search engine keyword hit" on my new blog and it was for someone searching for "elijah wood drunk" LOL! I hope they were happy with the Bacchus Mardi Gras post that they landed on! That stuff's fun, huh?

  3. Not to add to your list, but I tagged you for the same award, doll. I can't think of anyone who is more deserving than you.

You sound like you had a good time at the meet. How'd the youngest do?

And I love the photo. It is so great seeing kids reading! It lifts my spirits!

  4. Heyy! Thanks for the plug. And the missing button is our fault. Our domain peeps moved everything over to a new server and DELETED everything! So once I figure out how to work the new control panel I'll be adding those buttons back and your image should show up again. Gimme another day or so. It's really confusing. Darn them for making things "better."

  6. Great pic; I was going to add that in my 14 years teaching, I have never seen so many high school kids reading novels. Of course, this is in class when there are other things they should be doing, but still, they are carrying around the books for a chance to read. A lot of Picoult.

  7. Bonnie,

You might have -- November to January were kind of a blur and I probably totally forgot about it. Thank you! I'll mention you and everyone else when I do the official post.

That's interesting about your word-a-day thing. I wonder if it was the same kind of deal as Andi mentioned (below your comment).

    Chris,

Thanks, sweetie, you make my day, too. I keep thinking you'll be on the list, when I get to it. It's been around so much that I'm not going to attempt to see who has already gotten tagged.

Elijah Wood drunk!!! Hahaha! That's so funny! You know what I always hope is that maybe people who get to the blog for the wrong reason will choose to hang out and read about books. I don't think they ever do, though. If they're after nude photos, they're going to probably go away disappointed unless they really enjoy seeing things like . . . uh, naked squirrels. ;)

    CJ,

Like I'm going to protest because so many people are saying I make their day!!! LOL Thanks, babe. I'm feeling very loved and, honestly, you always say the sweetest things. Right back at ya.

We had a great time at the meet. It wasn't a very crowded swim meet, so I was even able to read a bit. Not kiddo's best, though, no. He's had tendonitis in his shoulder, so he's had to go easy at practice. He got some okay times, but nothing phenomenal.

Isn't that a cool thing to see? That swimmer would occasionally put her book away to go swim an event. Then, the moment she got back she made a beeline for the book. It was so cute! She couldn't put it down!

  8. Andi,

You're welcome and I adore your hair in the new pic. Did you do that yourself? Thanks for the explanation about the missing button. I was baffled. Actually, some people would probably argue that's my natural state. No hurry -- just want my button back, eventually. :)

    Stephanie,

Me, too! Isn't that just the coolest thing? She was reading every single spare moment. I had so much fun enjoying the intense look of concentration on her face (and using the 300mm lens to cheat and find out the title/author).

    Raidergirl3,

Really? That's awesome! You know, I wonder if it's because you're teaching the Harry Potter crowd. My son is in high school and he was among that group that were introduced to The Sorcerer's Stone and then stood in line for all the rest. It could be we really do have reason to be grateful to Joanne Rowling. Is Joanne correct?

I'm surprised they're reading Picoult books, although the book about the school shooting and the one about the gal who ran away to Alaska do seem like they'd be books that would draw in a young crowd. Thanks for sharing that!

  9. Old hair pic, actually. My stylist did this to me a couple of years ago. I kept the significant streaks up for a long time, but now that I've gone back curly the drama of the red and blonde isn't as noticeable so I don't drop the $$$ for it. I'm thinking of going back to something similar, though. Makes me feel edgy.

  10. Well, I like that. It seems very Andi. :)

Did your daughter know you were taking that picture? It's great!

  12. Stephanie,

Unfortunately, I was not blessed with a daughter and don't actually know the girl pictured. I just thought it was cool that she was so immersed in her reading. :)

  13. Your youngest child is absolutely darling. And she's reading a book I've been trying to get my daughter to read!

  14. Well, gosh, thanks Colleen but she's not mine. I did tell my husband I'd be willing to adopt her. She swims, she reads. What more could a mother want? LOL
