Yikes - It's Like a Ticking Bomb Thing!

Okay, it's not *that* bad, but the spouse gave me such a hard time about spending "a ridiculous amount of time" updating my blogs, this weekend, that I gave it some thought. And, then I went out and bought myself a cheap kitchen timer. Now, I'm timing myself while I update, post messages, etc. I gave myself 20 minutes, though, and then cranked the timer to add another 10. We'll see if this timing business works out.

It's only 7:10 p.m. and the poor teenager has totally conked out. I get really tired of brushing his teeth while he sleeps and cramming the retainers into his mouth, but I guess that's coming up. Oh, no! I'm down to one minute! This sucks!!!!!

Current reads, as quick as possible:

36 Views of Mt. Fuji by Cathy N. Davidson (travel memoir set, of course, in Japan)
Girlfriend in a Coma by Douglas Coupland (trying to find 5 creepy books for fall; I've only found 3, so far but it's a start).

My favorite show is on!!! Actually, my *only* show is on. Must dash!!

  1. Okay, first of all, what's your favorite show? As a book lover, I'm always looking for something to watch on TV with my husband, anything, really, that's worth pulling time from my books. So far, I haven't found too much that's worthy.

Also, we must be married to the same man. They just don't understand how compelling the blogging world is! It's so wonderful to be able to share your thoughts with one another, and surely, it's cheaper than a phone bill. Or text messaging. Plus, it's quieter.

  2. Bellezza,

House, M.D. is my show of choice. I've been a Hugh Laurie fan for many years. We don't have cable or satellite, so we're pretty limited.

We were sucked in and enjoyed watching the Standoff season premiere, also. It's about hostage negotiators and another formula show, but it had some fun moments - pretty decent script for one of those "sit down and watch some senseless violence with a conscience" shows - we laughed quite a bit. And, in fact, there were tense moments but no violence. I liked that. You'd have to assume the negotiators failed dismally if it gets too violent, right? So, it's pretty hopeful. :)

  3. Ah, I must be the lucky wife. My husband not only understands the whole blogging thing, but has one of his own (although he rarely posts to it anymore). But he does understand the whole computer "puttering" thing. He writes programs and looks at boats and I write book reviews and look at blogs. Neither of us watch any tv so this is our way of relaxing in the evening (unless we have a movie/tv program to watch from Netflix - favorites are House, MD; Deadwood; Gray's Anatomy; Six Feet Under; and The Sopranos.) We are both voracious readers and spend many an evening curled up with our books, munching on popcorn or the occasional chocolate chip cookie.

BTW, I'm glad the two of you (Bellezza and Bookfool) have met! You do know you're my two favorite bloggers, don't you? :)

  4. Oops, Bellezza, forgot the second part of your message because I'm sitting here printing out school assignments for my unconscious child. So glad to hear I'm not alone in having a husband who thinks the blogging is a waste of time. Yes! It's great being able to converse about books with like-minded individuals!!!

Seems to me that blogging is a better use of my time than the poker he plays on his BlackBerry, anyway. LOL

  5. Bookfool ~ LOL on the BlackBerry comment.

My DH (dear husband) happens to fall in the camp of "No Complaints"! Woo Hoo!!! He's a computer engineer, so I am in his world when I do anything on the computer. I feel so blessed! :)

HOUSE!!! Love him! I'm embarrassed to say, I love Big Brother too, so I had taped it and watched it when Standoff was on, but DH taped that for me as well. OKAY...you can stop laughing now about BB. It's like a 'fluff' book you need every now and then...mindless entertainment.

Have a great day and Happy Reading!

Oh yeah, what do I need to do to get on Les' "favorite blogger" list? (grin)

  6. I'm lucky too- my dh is in IT so I have long called him, affectionately of course, my computer-geek! (And of course he calls me, appropriately, book-geek!) He has a couple of blogs himself and is always browsing, reading daily websites, making programs, what have you. When I'm busy and haven't updated my blog for a couple of days, he'll ask about it.

  7. Les,

Nope, I didn't know Bellezza and I were your favorites. I'm honored! You'll have to tell Joy what makes a favorite, since I have no idea!!!

Darn, all you lucky gals with husbands in IT. Mine is a geotechnical engineer. Since he's got a doctorate, we like to refer to him as a "dirt doctor", but really he's in management and . . . well, actually, I'm not sure what he does, anymore.

Oh, and he won't ever blog because he's dyslexic; he reads every night and on planes (apparently due to my influence) but he tries diligently to avoid writing. If he blogged, I'd either be called on to edit or he'd holler at me every 2 minutes about how to spell something. I should have an honorary doctorate for all the editing I've done, over the years, since I lived through all three of his degrees. :)

  8. Oh, Joy! You're one of my favorites, too. You, too, Nat. :) The reason I said Bellezza and Bookfool are my favorite bloggers is because I've discovered we share a lot of common life histories, so there's a personal connection with them. As far as blogs go, anyone in my blogroll is a favorite!

Les, who feels like she's digging a bigger hole to crawl into!

  9. Les,

I don't think you dug yourself a hole; rather, you found out you're a people magnet. I'd take is as a warm fuzzy that people desire to find themselves amongst your favorites!! :)

  10. Bookfool ~ Well said!!! :)

Les ~ LOL, I really was kidding. No need for holes!

Personally, I love all the "babble", chatter, nonsense and serious stuff, etc. that others bloggers blog about. I just started mine and decided to keep it specific and...well, boring for now. :) It's really just a record of my thoughts regarding the books, nothing more. I'm content. And I guess I'm not all that prolific about it either. But...I love to read those that are!

  11. Hello!

My mom's a huge fan of the show "House" and so am I. And what's more, my 15 year old and ALL her friends are just ga-ga over the show and him. Guess the curmudgeonly Dr. House appeals to almost all age groups, huh? They (my daughter's friends) gathered here for the Fall season premier Tuesday night, it was a lot of fun!

  12. Lotus,

I think the show appeals to all ages because it's so darned funny. House is like an overgrown kid. Who wouldn't want to be able to get away with bouncing a ball off their employee's head and playing on a skateboard while discussing work? Plus, the older folks who already know Laurie probably followed him to this series (that's how I ended up watching).

Our William slept through the premiere. He let out a horrible howl when I told him he missed it!

  13. Where did you follow Hugh Laurie from, Nancy? I need to get his older stuff from Netflix (which is where we get House from - it's all I can do to NOT watch it on regular tv! We're only on Season 2 in this household).

  14. Okay, everyone. When I finally check back in, there's about 8 jigabillion comments that I've missed!

First, let me say how happy I am to be connected to the lovely les, and to have joy and bookfool join in my bog.

Secondly, I have an IT husband who's really not into helping me make my blog look cute (I think he's a bit jealous, if the truth were known).

Thirdly, I have caught a few episodes of House and I LOVE his sarcastic sense of humor. It's nothing I could ever do in my real life (at work, at least) but I do love a sharp wit like his.

  15. Les,

We watched Hugh Laurie in Jeeves & Wooster, many years ago; that was how we first found him. There's another British series we love, but I can't remember the name. I'm a mess, today, please pardon me if I say anything stupid or make major typos.

Hugh's had a lot of smaller parts in various movies: Sense and Sensibility, 101 Dalmations, The Borrowers (I think that's the right one). His range is amazing and he's a humble guy in real life.

    Bellezza,

I figured you'd love House! I need to order season 2. Thanks for letting me join in on your bloggy world.
