For the Buy a Friend a Book drawing (see Tuesday post), I opted to actually write on little pieces of paper and find a neutral observer to draw a name out of a hat - a real hat - rather than a computerized random generator, like I used for my last drawing . . . because only four people signed up. Pretty good odds, eh? And, certainly not worth computerizing. Youngest kiddo volunteered to reach into this hat:
and pulled out this name (it says "Amanda"):
So, Amanda is the winner of The Moon on a Stick. Congratulations, Amanda!
This will be a very short post. I finished up Joe Hill's 20th-Century Ghosts, last night, and hope to post a review very soon. But my head is splitting and I think I'll crash for a while. More later, I hope. Here's where we went, this morning:
Hope everyone is having a great weekend!
Ah, Barnes & Noble. One of my favorite browsing spots. Hope your head feels better. I can't wait to read what you thought of '20th Century Ghosts'. I just finished 'Heart Shaped Box' and will post my review on Tuesday (sneak peek...I LOVED it - so creepy.)
ReplyDeleteI am surprised they didn't get mad at you at taking a picture of the store. Barnes and noble doesn't allow pictures taken of their displays. lol Oh, well. Congrats Amanda! You have one more day to post for my give away. I won't draw til tomorrow night or even possibly monday. :)
ReplyDeleteAh, Barnes and Nobles...what a dangerous place! Hope your head feels better soon :(
ReplyDeleteKookie,
ReplyDeleteI'm not succeeding at conquering this headache, so the review will wait. I can tell you the stories were a disparate lot - some scary, some magical, some I thought pointless. He's a skilled writer and I expect him to become a household name. Heart-Shaped Box is on my wish list. :)
Krista,
Nobody cared. I took photos in Chick-Fil-A, too. They were so cute; people get really funny when you whip out a camera. I've got so darn many books I've only signed up for a couple drawings of books that just happen to be on my wish list and decided to give the rest a skip, but thanks. Maybe someone will see your comment and bop over to sign up. :)
Chris,
Dangerous is right. I love B & N. :) I'm going to go dig in the medicine chest and see if I can find something I haven't used in a while. I'm so sick of pain. Thanks for the good wishes. Hope you're feeling better, too!!
Sorry to hear your head is causing you grief again! Hope you feel better soon! Did you buy anything, btw?
ReplyDeleteAhh. The Mystery section. You find anything good ?
ReplyDeleteLucky Amanda! This is the first time I didn't sponser a round of BAFAB; I bought one for a friend of mine in one of our book clubs instead of my Blogger friends. There's nothing like receiving, or giving, a book.
ReplyDeleteNat,
ReplyDeleteThanks, I had a big nap this afternoon and woke up feeling much better (and also in a significantly improved mood - poor guys, I was snappish). Yes, I did acquire two books; my self-control needs work. Fortunately, we did still have one gift card left from Christmas! I got True Grit (the old movie with John Wayne as Rooster Cogburn and Glen Campbell as . . . some other guy has always been a favorite) and Foreign Fruit by JoJo Moyes. :)
Gavin,
I didn't buy any mysteries, but I just got one in the mail, the other day - a legal thriller by David Rosenfelt called Open and Shut. Have you heard of it? SuziQ of Blogging My Books highly recommended it. I bought True Grit (love the movie - didn't realize it was a book) and Foreign Fruit by JoJo Moyes. Don't know the True Grit author off the top of my head. We had fun. :)
Bellezza,
Amanda was very happy and said she's never won a free book, which just thrilled my heart. Yes, it's a great feeling isn't it? Just as fun as getting a book in the mail, I think. :) I pass on books to friends in my book groups pretty often, so I figured a drawing would be fun and different.
Hey, I recognize that store! ;)
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear you're suffering from another headache. I haven't had any trouble for several weeks now. I'm sure once the weather flips back to hot & humid, I'll get a doozy. But for now, I'm doing ok. Same in the sleep dept. Well, other than when Sir Frankie decides it's time for us to wake up (5:30 on a Saturday morning!).
Les,
ReplyDeleteIsn't a B & N a lovely sight? :)
I finally got rid of that migraine after about three weeks of being hounded by it day and night. Whew! I just hope I don't get another for a while. I'm really enjoying the cool weather while I can!! Sleep is a constant battle for me, but I'm really good at cat-napping with my fur buddies and that helps. Sunshine's still not moving much, so she's not waking me early. In fact, I have to periodically dump her in front of the food bowls or she won't eat. Sigh.
I haven't heard of that legal thriller, but I've added it to my list of books to check out. Thanks
ReplyDeleteNo problem, Gavin. Always happy to enable. :)
ReplyDeleteHappy Easter, albeit belated, Nancy!
ReplyDeleteDarn it, I wish I had visited earlier then I could have entered the draw...serves me right for not being on time!
I love the picture of the bookstore...I have been dying to take one of the local bookstore I visit every week, but I wasn't sure how they would react. YOur beautiful picture has given me the courage to ask them if I can click a picture of the hallowed surroundings. lol
Congrats Amanda and enjoy your book!
Thanks, Lotus! Happy Belated Easter to you, too!
ReplyDeleteOh, darn, I know you said you were interested in that book and I didn't even think to let you know when I decided to give it away. Sorry! It was kind of an impulse thing. I just felt like joining in on the BAFAB week thing.
I've never asked anyone if I can take photos inside bookstores - I just snap away - but I'm kind of accustomed to hauling my camera everywhere and I move pretty quickly. I'll bet your local store owner would love it. It can't possibly hurt a business to have someone show how cool it is and talk about it, right? I'm happy to know I gave you courage. :)
