Poppet and I must remind everyone to please leave me an email where I can reach you if you forgot to add a contact address to your entry for my drawing. I'm all about convenience, here, so I might get icky and ditch you if you don't leave me an email. I'm just saying . . .
All of my best-laid plans were ganging aft agley, today. Last night, our power went out at around 9pm. I called the power company and they said the estimated repair time was 11:45 pm, so Kiddo and I curled up in our rooms -- he with my laptop, his trusty new Maglite (both of my sons agree that Maglites are the coolest Christmas gift . . . I am not even kidding) and a book; I with my trusty old Maglite and, of course, a book. I read 70 pages of A Lovely Little War by Angus Lorenzen, a WWII memoir, before falling asleep and waking to a very dark, very cold house. Kiddo went off to the corner store to locate some breakfast food before heading to school and I climbed back under my big pile of blankets with the cat, whose paws were spectacularly cold.
When the power finally came back on at around 9am, I read some more. I have found A Lovely Little War nearly impossible to put down and I'll finish it, this evening. After reading in bed for an unreasonable amount of time, I ran to the post office to mail swap books then off to the library to check out a ridiculous little stack that will probably stay in the bag for 2 weeks (you never know) and off to the park for my walk. Then to the bank because I had no cash for my son to sneak out of my purse. At least he informs me when he absconds with my funds. To Kroger to buy the kiddo some sushi and home. I'm glad to be sitting in a nice, warm house. Wahoo for electricity!

I've been wanting to read a John Green book - can't wait to see what you think of An Abundance of Katherines.
ReplyDeleteKathy,
ReplyDeleteI've read An Abundance of Katherines and I loved it! I'd checked it out from the library, though, and I liked it so much that I wanted to own a copy . . . and then Heather had an awesome drawing, so I got my wish. Here's my review:

I have such a John Green crush right now! I love, love, love his writing. :)
ReplyDeleteMelanie,
ReplyDeleteMe, too. Author crush!!! I love his writing, he's cute and smart and embraces his nerdiness. How can you not love him, right? :)
Poppet looks quite tall in that pic.
ReplyDeleteI love evil eyes! I just got an evil eye bracelet, actually, in the after-Christmas sales. Love that poppet pic. :D
ReplyDeleteLe Poppet! And how can you beat a cat bookmark, except with 12 cat bookmarks!!!
ReplyDeleteSoftdrink,
ReplyDeleteWell . . . above average. ;)
Eva,
Where does one find an evil eye bracelet? You must live in a more diverse place than I do. I thought I'd have to fly to Turkey if I ever wanted another evil eye! Poppet thanks you.
Stacey,
Le LOL! Exactly. The bookmarks are really, really pretty, too.
I love poppets. I am a scardy cat. I really don't like when the power goes out. I like storms and almost anything else but not that. Maybe from all the times my dad scared the poop out of me as a kid. I can't wait to see what you think of An Abundance of Katherines.
ReplyDeleteDar,
ReplyDeleteAren't poppets adorable?
I can't say I enjoy power outages but it was good in that we got to bed earlier. We have quite a bit of power trouble, down here, so I keep a Maglite by my bed and so does my son. It was so, so dark -- cloudy outside, so no moonlight. I think we both appreciated knowing exactly where those flashlights were located!
I've actually already read and reviewed An Abundance of Katherines (I just didn't own a copy -- now I do!), here:

Isn't electricity wonderful- when it's working, lol?
ReplyDeleteLadyDoc,
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely. I'm not good with extremes. I appreciate my electricity!!!
