I still don't technically have a "lap cat" but look! Isabel slept on my lower legs, last night! So exciting! I'm determined to eventually turn at least one of my kitties into a lap cat. It's slow going, but I've awakened to find Izzy on or near my feet, several times, and Fiona curled up at my back. Kiddo, home from college for the summer, is a wee bit envious. Miss Sunshine spent a lot of time curled up with him and he still misses having a cat to snuggle with.
Izzy looks like a chubster in this photo but it's really just the angle. She's finally filling out a bit, but she's not as round as she looks.

I have had a ton of cats growing up and I've never had a lap cat, LOL. I've had cats that would sit near me and one cat who you could pick up and carry around. She wouldn't even mind having her belly rubbed (cats don't normally like that.) I had one cat (that my parents still have) that likes to chew on your head when you're sitting -- but never a lap cat!
ReplyDeleteAdorable photo. :)
Aw, poor Allison. I've had several lap cats but neither Fiona or Izzy is interested. At least they are becoming more open to snuggling. One of mine was more dog than cat -- Sunshine, the orange tabby in the sidebar. She was determined to make everyone her friend and ridiculously smart. She wasn't a lap cat, either, but she liked to curl up next to people with one paw outstretched and touching her humans. And, she liked chests. Late in her life, I found myself waking up sputtering with fur in my face, carefully displacing her and rolling onto my side (several times per night).
DeleteThanks! :)
I have a cat named Bill who likes to crawl onto my shoulder and sometimes onto my face while I am asleep. He is a lap cat, but he prefers to be held like a baby. He's a really weird little dude! I love that Fiona is slowly becoming more close!
ReplyDeleteYeah, our Sunshine tended to get into my face. And, she loved to be carried around like a baby. Funny! Both kitties are getting more snuggly, but it's probably going to be a slow process, partly because they're such active cats. They need to relax into it a little.
DeleteMy kitty really is that chubby...and then some. :( I LOVE when my kitty sleeps against my back. And, btw, if want a lap cat you could borrow mine. She's a little too lap-cat for me.
ReplyDeleteFiona's pretty chubby, although we call her "sturdy" to be nice. LOL I know what you mean about yours being "a little too lap-cat." I always felt guilty if I had to get up or shift around because a body part was getting numb with Spooky. She was a devoted lap cat, especially in the winter. I'd read with her on my lap or chest for *hours*, not wanting to disturb her.
DeleteLove it!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Tammy!
DeleteI didn't even have to try to turn my cat into a lap cat - she's aggressive about it, and practically forces me to accept her on my lap. She likes being hugged, too. I got lucky with her and figure her bouts of craziness are a small price to pay.
ReplyDeleteYes, that's the way our Spooky was. She was determined!! Both Spooky and Sunshine enjoyed hugs. They didn't get along with each other, but they were awesome kitties.
DeleteThat's great, Nancy! If you want a lap cat you should come visit for sure. Casey loves any and all people and will visit for at least a moment. Sometimes she is a bit too much of one, especially for the guy, but I am not really complaining. I just have to adjust her so I can still do what I am doing and she goes to sleep.
ReplyDeleteI'll be happy to spend some time with Casey on my lap. :) Yes, sometimes those lap cats can be just a bit much, but I love a lap cat. They're great reading buddies!
DeleteHow sweet! I don't think I've ever had a cat that was snuggly without being completely neurotic at the same time (maybe that's just cats though). :)
ReplyDeleteMight be, Alyce. Isabel isn't neurotic, though, so much as needy. She's an awfully sweet little gal.
DeleteAwww....she looks pretty comfy snuggling there with you...I bet it won't be long before she's a real lap cat.
ReplyDeleteFingers crossed! She was definitely comfy. I eventually had to get up and when I did, I just bunched up that blanket around her. She gave me a sleepy smile and kept on snoozing. :)
DeleteWe've been really lucky with our cats. Oliver has always been a lap cat. Minerva will visit occasionally. They tend to get colder as they age, so they want more warmth. ;)
ReplyDeleteIsabel is such a thin little thing that she does get cold, already. That's one reason I think she's likely to end up being my lap cat. We shall see. You know how much she likes being touched. LOL They both have their cuddly moments so maybe we'll get lucky as they age.
DeleteYou missed out on meeting Miss Spooky. She was a *serious* lap cat and so heavy that body parts would occasionally go numb because she wanted to stay on your lap for hours. I loved reading with her on my lap, though. I miss that.
