I'm reading A Climate for Change: Global Warming Facts for Faith-Based Decisions and enjoying it immensely. It seems to be a very fair and balanced view of global warming -- the theories, the facts, and what our response as Christians should be. I don't think it's necessary to be a Christian to read the book but it does approach global warming from that angle, reminding us that we're "stewards of the earth" and do, in fact, have a responsibility not to let the planet go to pot -- not to cause the going-to-potting, thereof. That's a technical term, "going to pot".
So . . . giveaway time!!! I can give away 5 copies of A Climate for Change, so that's what I'm a-gonna do, by golly. I think a lot of people have a political stance, one way or another, about global warming. This is absolutely not slanted in a political way. It's a strictly scientific viewpoint with religious undertones and it's very, very readable and politically neutral. I hope to finish and post a review, soon. In the meantime:
What'cha Gotta Do (aka, The Rules):
1. Leave your email address or else! No email, no entry. I am not chasing anyone down to remind them, this time. Except maybe Holly. Okay, if I know you and love you, I might chase you down but don't tempt me to get all mean and ugly!!
2. Live in the right place. This is a Hatchette giveaway, limited to U.S. and Canadian residents. No P.O. Boxes.
3. Jump through hoops. Kidding. But, if you could say something a little more clever than, "Sign me up!" or "Sounds good!", I'd appreciate it.
4. Drawing will be held on November 22, 2009. I close entries to further comments at 6pm, Central time. I now give winners approximately 48-72 hours to respond after notification, but sometimes emails go astray, so I recommend following this blog in a reader (or follow me on Twitter; I'm "Bookfoolery" - I do link up to announcements) if you don't, already. If you win and don't hear from me, contact me at the email address in my sidebar ----->
Good luck! And, may the best treehuggers win.
It would be nice to read some information about global warming that isn't completely slanted one way or another. I would like to hear the facts without the propaganda.

That sounds like a book I might like. When I was in grad school I took an environmental biology class and we studied global warming a little. It would be interesting to read a faith based book on it.

I'm certainly interested in global warming and believe that we should be responsible steward of the earth. I'm also hoping it isn't too late to correct a lot of the damage done to the environment in so many ways. jenclair(at)aol(dot)com
ReplyDeleteSign me up.... As a family we have started making little changes so help with the state of the world, recycling, making sure the lights are turned off, just little things but I want to know all I can about the state of the planet and what I can do to help, so this book would be step in that direction for me.

I am a teacher and have had trouble finding accurate information about global warming that is not biased one way or the other, or saturated with political propaganda...this sounds like a good read.

In the past year or so I've been reading a lot of books about climate change, but all of them have been from a secular background. I'd love to read one from a Christian perspective.

I would love to learn a little more about Global Warming. It would be interesting to read what effect this has on the world.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the chance to enter and to learn.

It would be very interesting to read a book about global warming from a Christian perspective. I've been baffled about how some of the conservative Christians I know treat global warming with reflexive, knee-jerk disbelief. I went to a religious college that emphasized stewardship of the earth as part of the Christian life, but sadly there are a lot of Christians out there that don't see it that way.

That baffles me, too, Christy. Although, I do feel I kind of get where they're coming from since I read The Unlikely Disciple by Kevin Roose (which gave me a little insight into far-right Christianity . . . I'm kind of mid-left to far-left, I guess). Till then, I didn't even realize there were a lot of Christians who didn't believe in global warming *because* of their Christianity. Learn something new every day, eh? :)
ReplyDeleteI am definitely curious about this subject!

I'm here in Asia and last month was like a roller coaster of typhoons and floods here, and the local news says its all because of climate change. I'm kinda blithely about the issue before, not until I've experienced being flooded inside our house. Almost all our things were washed out. Then after a day, I found out that the whole city and some neighboring cities and provinces were affected. News was blaming it to climate change. That's when I started to read more about climate change. I appreciate this post. Very informative. Thanks! I wish I could be a part of the give-aways, tho. :-)
ReplyDeleteE-P C,
ReplyDeleteThat's what they're telling us about our Gulf Coast hurricanes, too. The water is warmer, so hurricanes are growing stronger. Since I'm in a state that was hit by Katrina (and which is a long, long way from full recovery), I believe it. I've seen the damage. We've been very fortunate not to have a big hurricane season, the past two years. I'm sorry you were flooded. It's amazing how destructive water is, isn't it? We've been flooded and it's quite shocking how little is salvageable.
I'm sorry the giveaway is limited. It's a really great book.
It would be interesting to read a green book from a religious perspective.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway.

Bookfool,
ReplyDeleteThank you for the reply. It makes me smile. No problem with the free book, but I'm hoping that someday the give aways will go as far as Asia... Have a nice weather out there! No storms and destructive water, please! :-)
E-P C,
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome! I hope the giveaways will go a little farther someday, too. I've occasionally done international giveaways at my own expense and postage has really gotten expensive, so I see why they limit the shipping territory but it would just be nicer to spread the joy a little further. We're having perfect weather!! I wish you great weather, too. :)
I am interested in this book and the topic. Thanks for this giveaway. rojosho(at)hotmail(dot)com
