YA Dystopian Reading Challenge

Oh, Bart. You're killing me. I have absolutely no choice in the matter, when it comes to joining in on this challenge. There are dystopian young adult books out the wazoo, these days, and I love YA; I gobble dystopian books. Seriously. No choice. I had to join.

The YA Dystopian Challenge takes place from October 15 - the end of 2009. And, it's easy. You can read anywhere between 1-4 books. I've got 4 on hand and I'm afraid I am going to have no choice but to buy The Knife of Never Letting Go because Chris said so. Here's what I've got and will attempt to read before the end of the year:

1. Uglies - Scott Westerfield
2. The Hunger Games - Suzanne Collins
3. Catching Fire - Suzanne Collins (assuming I get it back from the teenager who borrowed it)
4. The Forest of Hands and Teeth - Carrie Ryan

I just finished The Maze Runner by James Dashner and it would have fit this challenge perfectly. I'll get to my review ASAP, but in the meantime I highly, highly recommend The Maze Runner.

I just started reading Uglies. So far, so good!

Sounds like a really cool challenge!

It's actually Catching Fire, not Chasing Fire. Just thought I'd warn you about that small mess-up.

  6. Veens,

Thank you. I've sort of been slowly stocking up on YA Dystopian books without really realizing it. Maybe you could join in next year? It seems to be a hot little subgenre!

    JBBR,

Thanks for that. I thought the title looked wrong when I typed it but my son's friend has our copy and I was too tired to look it up. It does sound like great fun, doesn't it?

  7. I liked Uglies. I didn't really like The Hunger Games so I'll skip the sequel. I loved The Forest of Hands and Teeth.

  8. Melissa,

I couldn't get into The Hunger Games the first time I tried to read it, but the lovely thing about this challenge is that I can get away with whatever. One is fine. So far, I'm enjoying Uglies. I might go buy Pretties for the joy of it -- and definitely The Knife of Never Letting Go.

  9. I can't believe you are doing another reading challenge! :)
My friend Sarah loved the Uglies series. I checked the Hunger Games out from the library because of all the things I have been reading about it on the internet. I don't know when I am going to have time to read it though. I need to talk a week off from work and do nothing but read. :)

  10. Brittanie,

I know! Weird, huh? But, actually, the RIP IV is almost over and I've more than completed it so I can just call that one quits and move on to the YA Dystopian. I think I'll probably wrap up the RIP IV, this weekend. Today majorly sucked, so I just finished up the one post I'd started about a giveaway and I'm heading to bed soon.

I'm enjoying Uglies. We'll see about the others. At least if I don't like The Hunger Games, the kiddo did, so it was worth buying for his sake! I could go for a week totally alone, myself. Just a week. :)

I just joined this challenge too. The Suzanne Collins books are both on my list. I'm currently reading The Knife of Never Letting Go--it's good!

  13. Carrie,

Yep, The Maze Runner is terrific. Seriously edge-of-seat reading. I can't wait for the next book. Yay, this will be a fun challenge. I'm glad you're joining!

    Lola,

I just bought my copy of The Knife of Never Letting Go, so I'm all set! Well, except I do have to get Catching Fire back from the teenager we loaned it to, but no hurry. Have fun reading!

  14. LOL--I broke down and bought The Knife of Never Letting Go because Chris, Debi, and Nymeth said so. :) Maybe I'll open it for the read-a-thon. If not I have Hunger Games and Catching Fire--guess we'll both be reading some Dystopian YA. I'm all challenged out, though and not signing up for more. :)

  15. Trish,

I think Debi and Nymeth can share the blame for my purchase, too, although Chris was really the catalyst. As to signing up for challenges . . . I took a nice long break from challenges and now I'm only signing up if I absolutely feel compelled to do so because I want to read those books, anyway! I don't feel any need to join in on them, anymore. I got over that after about two years of blogging. It's good to take a break or just give them up, IMHO.

  16. Whaaaaaat? I'm innocent of all accusations I am!

Seriously glad to have to you aboard, hope you have a ton of fun with it!

  17. Bart, m'dear,

I'm afraid you're guilty, but in a good way. I'm reading Uglies and enjoying it very much. And, I did buy The Knife of Never Letting Go. It's a shame there's actually no room left to walk through the house so that we can feed ourselves, but reading is obviously much more important. :)

  18. Yay! I have read all four of those... This year... and I totally recommend all four of them! Happy reading!
