Fiona Caturday - I think I can, I think I can. And, some other nonsense.

Isabel is a positive thinker.

We've just returned from a couple nights in Oxford, Mississippi, where Kiddo attended orientation at the University of Mississippi. While Kiddo was off doing his thing, Huzzybuns and I looked at apartments and condos because the dorms are full and Kiddo needs a place to live. Naturally, we went to Square Books:

And, Off-Square Books (the secondhand and remainders store):

I did not come out of without buying something. Figures. I got two books:

New Orleans, Mon Amour by Andrei Codrescu
Rather Die Fighting (a WWII memoir) by Frank Blaichman

Mamasita, the Off-Square Books store cat was not present. I was worried about her because I know she's been around a few years. So, I asked where she was. I think I was holding my breath, actually, but she's okay. Mamasita occasionally wonders out the door and around the town square and she just went a bit too far, a couple times. She is "on vacation" being an indoor cat for her safety. Whew!

We ate at Taylor Grocery, which some of you may have heard me (and, more importantly, Alton Brown) mention in the past. They cook melt-in-your-mouth catfish:

Fortunately, we went on Friday. They're going to be closed on Sunday:

In case you can't read the sign, it says: "We will be closed Sunday nite to watch Eli beat the Patriots AGAIN. Sorry."

We had a terrific time (and I'm tempted to move to Oxford with Kiddo; it's such a
great place). But, we're happy to be home. :)

    1. We did! We always have fun in Oxford. And, for some reason we always seem to end up going there when the weather is perfect, which makes it doubly fun.

  2. You know all the great bookstores in every town I swear! It looks like you had fun. Oh, and I believe Isabel could reach the fan if she really wanted. ;)

    1. LOL I'm always seeking out the bookstores when I travel, Jenny.

You're probably right about Isabel. She could jump that high if she felt like it. I hope she never does, though!!!

  3. There is a college town here and my biggest pet peeve is they think because they are so intelligent they don't have to use crosswalks. You will be driving and there are people darting out everywhere. I hate driving through! (And, actually, I went there, so I probably did it, too.)

Casey also is a positive thinker. The first time she saw the fan move in the bedroom she was mesmerized!

    1. Yes, and they drive like they think they're invincible, too. Just a product of youth combined with vehicles, I guess. That's one reason we're trying to get Kiddo a place as close to campus as possible - so he doesn't have to deal with the crazy traffic.

You know what's funny about the cats (both of them) finding the fan so fascinating, when I took that photo, is that they see it all the time. I don't know why it grabbed their attention on that particular day but both kitties were spellbound. Izzy is the only one who actually tried to touch it, though. Fiona just stared, all goggle-eyed. :)

  4. And Oxford = Faulkner, correct? there are many places in Mississippi that I'd love to visit but seems that we always just end up driving through Jackson. Hope that kiddo loves Ole Miss! So does this mean you'll be an emptynester?!

    1. Yes, Rowan Oak (Faulkner's home) is in Oxford. We've been there but didn't make it, this time. It's worth the visit. Oxford is such a pretty little town.

I will be an empty nester, unless you count cats. :) Might be time to go back to school, myself, or get one of those job thingies.

  5. Oxford looks like such a cool town! I'm currently sitting in the Nashville airport waiting to go home. My niece was married here yesterday, but I didn't have any extra time to do any sightseeing. Maybe another time.

    1. Oxford is very cool, very much a town that's into literature because of Faulkner and Square Books. Tom Franklin is teaching at Ole Miss, as is his wife. I might have seen him if I'd managed to stick around till Saturday night for Wiley Cash's reading. Oh, well.

Nashville is a very fun place to hang out. Maybe you can meet us there, sometime? Since D & S are living there, we've gotten to know it a little better. I met up with Tammy of Under a Blood Red Sky at Christmas! So fun to finally meet her in person! There's a lot of good food in Nashville, too.

Hope you're feeling better! I saw your post about cold medicine on FB but was on the iPad. Hate typing on-screen.
