Books Read in 2012

This is a temporary post that will be supplanted by a permanent post linked in my sidebar, eventually.  I thought you'd just like to see what I read in 2012.  I've highlighted books that really stand out in my memory in bold lettering.  Most are among my favorites but I decided just to highlight the stories that really stuck to my ribs, whether fiction or nonfiction, books for the young or old or everyone in-between.  Some made me laugh and a couple made me cry.  Links lead to reviews or, sometimes, just a paragraph within other text, about the book listed.

  1. Holy guacamole, lady! That's a lot of reading! So happy to see that so much of was bolded--sounds like quite a gratifying year between the pages. :)

    1. Well . . . there are a lot of children's books in there, so it doesn't feel like a lot. :) Yes, definitely a super year. I resolved to set aside anything that didn't grab me and only failed in my resolve a few times -- which means I either liked or loved about 90% of the books I read. It's the best way to read, if you ask me.

  2. Very cool that you have this list. I might have to peruse it when I have some time and reread a bunch of these reviews that I am interested in. Thanks for sharing this!

    1. I'm glad you like that, Heather! I actually keep a running list, all year, and add links as I review. That way I don't have to go back and link up to everything I've reviewed at the end of the year. It saves a lot of time and energy, although it does mean you don't actually see my full list until the year is over.

  3. Nancy! 152 with all the things you did in 2012?! I'm much impressed. I didn't even clock in at 100... :(

To top that off, both Les and Nan have quite their blogs. What's the world coming to? xo

    1. Bellezza, a lot of those are children's books. I hesitate to add them but friends have encouraged me to add them to my count because I have, after all, read them (even though some are maybe a whopping 12 pages). My average page count was somewhere around 244, though, which was better than I expected. You read challenging books! I had to go Reading Light because of the move. It really did kill a couple months' reading.

Oh, I know. It's so sad to see old favorites leave blogging behind.

  4. So now I've added two more books to my dystopian reading list for this year! lol the Maria Snyder books, which I hadn't heard about, I read both your reviews for now (thanks for the links) and voila, more books to Mount TBR! lol they do look interesting and I seem to be in this phase right now.

You read some really good books this year - and lots I haven't heard of. A very good reading year - no, wonderful, who am I kidding? I haven't reached 100 in a year yet! I have the first Miss Buncle book on the same Mount, and I went to check out the Clarissa Pinkola Estes book - I love Women Who Run With the Wolves, so am curious about anything else she writes. Sadly it's not available except as audio, and I do terrible with audio.

Have a very happy reading year in 2013, Bookfool.

    1. Wahoo! I think the two Maria Snyder books are excellent. I just read Poison Study because I enjoyed them so much (the dystopian books are better, IMHO, but I enjoyed Poison study, too).

Thanks! I read and reviewed a lot of children's books, which bumps the number up significantly. I love children's books. Miss Buncle is wonderful -- both books are great, but I think I liked the second one even better than the first. Clarissa Pinkola Estes was new to me. I found The Faithful Gardener at a used-book sale at the local college. Do you swap? Maybe you can find a used copy at a swap site.

Happy reading year to you, too, Susan!

  5. Sheesh! I wish I could read that many books in a year! It looks like you found quite a few new favorites. Love the pic of Isabel. She looks so dreamy.

    1. I think my husband would tell you he'd like it if I read fewer books in a year! ;) I really did read some wonderful books in 2013. It's probably been my best year, quality-wise, in quite a while.

Thanks! Izzy likes to hang her head off the edge of things. I think it's so cute. She's back to normal, today, after a day of being sluggish from her shots. Boy, that was weird. I have such active cats that if I don't hear jingle balls and skitter, skitter noises for a while, I start to get freaked out.

  8. Wow...that is a whole lot of reading in one year! And you actually wrote reviews for most of them!lol That is my downfall!

    1. Yes, I think feeling obligated to write reviews for almost everything is *my* downfall! But, I'm always happy I've managed to do so, at the end of the year. The only books I haven't reviewed are those last few of 2012 (which I'll get to) and a scattered few about which I had nothing to say. In one case, I read the book but had the author do a guest post, instead. That was fun. :)

  9. I just listed my book read this year, about 60 plus and people think I read a lot…. You have me beat by dozens and more! I’ve read some on your list. You have such a variety of subjects – that is quite a list.

    1. Oh, I'll have to look at your list. I'm curious! Yes, I'm a variety-is-the-spice-of-your-reading-life kind of girl. I've actually burned out on a couple of genres, in the past, so I go out of my way to make sure I don't overdo any particular type of book.

  10. Holy moly...you are a reading-wizard. I pale in your shadow. On the other hand I will not be afraid to count the books I read to my students in my count this next year. At least I will get more than 40 books under my hat that way.
I loved looking over your list and remembering your reviews and enthusiasm.
Thanks so much for sharing it all. Oh, and thank the kitty-babies for being so willing to pose nicely.

    1. Definitely count the books you read to your students! It makes the end-of-year total look so pretty. LOL

I will thank the kitties (and keep my fingers crossed that they continue to pose nicely)!
