Bookfool's First 100

The reason I'm able to post a third time in one day? Kiddo had a daytime swim meet and we haven't had to tackle the afternoon/evening routine, just yet. Should be interesting as it's nearly 9:00 PM and he is not yet home. 9 weeks tests begin tomorrow. Favorites are highlighted in purple because it's one of my favorite colors; top 10 in bold. 1. I am VERY impressed that you've read 100 books in 2006. I've probably only done half of that, though reading is a great passion of mine. However, purple is one of my favorite colors, and I really dislike orange. Does that qualify for connection? (You do know that purple is for royalty: princesses like us.)

I'm impressed! I see some familiar authors and titles - many of which we agree on.

I also see a few that I need to look into adding to "The List" ;-)

  3. Wow, I'm impressed.. and looks like we have very similar taste in books.
And I'm excited to see The Book Thief as your #1, as I just ordered that from Zooba. Looks great!

  4. Thanks, ladies. I think "rabid" is probably a better word than "impressive" (Reader Rabid - hahaha). Something definitely bit me, this past couple of years. LOL

    Princess Bellezza,

Purple is royal and creative. I'm pleased to have that in common with you. And, don't knock your own numbers - you're doing fabulous.

    SuziQ,

I noticed we seem to have similar taste. In fact, a title you reviewed recently has just walked in my door - One Foot in Eden. I need to dig into your archives in order to get myself into further trouble. :)

    Angela,

The Book Thief is just amazing. Not everyone is carried away by page one, as I was (it was one of those rare books that I bought in hardback on impulse; I flipped through it and couldn't put it down) but I haven't read a single negative review, not one. It's heartrending and beautiful. I'll look forward to reading your thoughts. I noticed we do seem to have a lot of the same interests - in TV, as well. Richard Dean Anderson is everywhere in this house. ;)

  5. I'm very impressed, too. And, I can't believe how many of these books I've never heard of. I have The Book Thief with me today. I'm super tired, though, so I may wait to read it later this afternoon, after a nap! Off to see what Hugh Laurie wrote! :)

  6. WOO HOO!!! That's quite a list. I'm in with the purple...favorite color for me! However, I haven't read many of your book choices. That's actually a good thing, because now I have many more books to look into that I might not have known about. Thanks!

Also, I responded to you on my blog regarding the book, but I'll say the same thing here: You are too kind! I'll be in touch. :)

  7. Les,

Hope you grab enough shut-eye to focus; I'm sure you'll love The Book Thief. I'm still catching up, here; the cat and I have slept most of the day and poor William is a wreck. He needs a day or two off!

The Hugh Laurie book is a hoot. I read it in June, but as I'd just begun to blog it doesn't look like I reviewed it. Unfortunately, I can't tell; I got the blog message of doom whilst trying to load the June archives: "Document contains no data." Boy, do I hate that message.

    Joy,

Always happy to enable a book addict. I'll look forward to hearing from you. :)

  8. bookfool, maybe you should abandon your photographer's rear view and slap a crown on your head! We could be Princess Bookfool and Princess Bellezza. What a riot.

  9. Bellezza,

You crack me up! I'll have to look for princess images, just for fun. Although, I admit I'm rather fond of that photographer's butt at my other site - it's just soooo me. I'm all rear end.

  10. I started The Book Thief this afternoon (after an hour-long nap!) and in spite of it's odd beginning, I think I'm hooked. Oh, and thanks for the reminder. I REALLY need to back-up my blogs!!

  11. Oh, boy! I can't wait to hear what you think of The Book Thief, Les! Several people have noted that the beginning was a little too odd for them, but then things improved. For me, the odd beginning was probably what grabbed me and hung on. :)

I'm reading a really good book: My Brilliant Career. I've seen the movie with Sam Neill and Judy David - loved it. So far the book is different, as always, but just as enjoyable.

Bookfool, first off, congratulations on this wonderful reading achievement, also, this is a wonderfully helpful list, thank you!

I am so pleased to note you rated "Running in the Family" so highly for I have the book sitting right here (unread) on my bookshelf.

"Book Thief" is definitely one I intend picking up - I like that the young adults in my home will be able to read it, too.

I remember reading "In My Father's House" many years ago - it is a very touching read, isn't it?

    Now here's to the next 100! :)

  13. Lotus,

Thanks for the kind words. Running in the Family surprised me - it's quite funny. Ondaatje occasionally goes off on poetic tangents, but in that I think he can't help himself; he's a poet down to his bones.

I hope you love that and The Book Thief as much as I did. Oh, yes, In My Father's House is touching and actually rather fascinating; I felt like I came away with a better understanding of where the ten Boom family's strength and resolve during WWII came from. It's definitely a book to pass around, reread and absorb.
