Backlog

I've read quite a few books, this month, and I have liked or loved every single one of them. But, I have been plagued by migraines and it's hard to write when you're busy holding your head in both hands. Hopefully, reviews of these books will be coming soon.

A Good American is the most exciting of this batch because it's on the verge of release, has already been featured at Oprah.com and is the #1 Indie Next pick for February. I went out of my way to acquire a pre-release copy of A Good American and am happy to report that I agree with all the buzz. It's epic. The rest may end up in mini reviews. We'll see. Till I can see straight, I wish you happy reading.

    1. Thanks, Kelly. It's just our crazy weather. I've discovered something interesting while filling up the sink for Isabel. If the bubbles pop immediately, one day, and float around for a while before popping the next, I'll have a migraine. Huh. Bubbles and air pressure changes are related? Interesting.

  2. I'm glad A Good American worked out so well for you. I love it when books I go out of my way to acquire actually pan out the way I wanted them to. You know I'm looking forward to your thoughts on 501 Minutes to Christ if you have an opportunity to review it.

Hope your migraines subside for a while!

    1. Andiloo, I'll be you've had a few experiences like I have, then. LOL Yes, very exciting when you are determined to acquire a book and it turns out as great as you hoped. I've found that a lot of them are disappointments, unfortunately.

501 Minutes to Christ is almost too awesome to review. I don't know what I can possibly say to do it justice. LOVE his writing.

      Thanks. :)

  4. I'm sorry about the migraines. I know how awful they are. I'm surprised you even got any reading done. If I have a migraine I can't do anything but sleep or maybe watch TV. Feel better.

    1. Jenny, I usually medicate myself into a stupor and then reading is all I can handle (sometimes just TV or sleep, yes). Just depends on how bad the migraine is, really, and how hard the meds hit me. I had one today and I slept most of the day but then read the rest of a book when I woke up. Even moving a load of laundry was a huge effort. I did 2 loads and I'm pleased as punch.

First, sorry to hear about ypur migranes. I get them once in a while and know how awful you feel. I hope they get better soon.

Oh, I've never heard of A Good American! Will be adding it to my GoodReads list right now!

    1. Thanks, Stephanie. We've had some wacky weather -- lots of changes of air pressure -- and they're totally screwing me up. Hope Mother Nature decides to settle on one extreme or the other, soon. I could stand a break.

I heard of A Good American when I saw chatter on Twitter. So glad I found it and the author seems like a really terrific guy, which is always nice to know. I hope you love it. Can't wait to see what he comes up with, next!

Sorry to hear about your migraines!

    1. Cinder is great, a retelling of Cinderella (futuristic) in which she's a cyborg and there's a plague, plus the queen of the lunar settlement is considering war on Earth. Cool stuff. Thanks. :)

    1. Thanks, Alyce. I need to move somewhere without weather, like California . . . but in the meantime, maybe if the weather would just stay one way or another for a while, I'll be a really happy camper. LOL

  10. I just received A Good American as well, and am looking forward to it. It sounds like such a great book! I also really enjoyed Cinder as well, and can't wait to her what you thought about both of them!

    1. Zibilee, I'm glad you got a copy! A Good American is very well written for a first book. Cinder is loads of fun. Hope I get around to reviewing both, soon. I feel like my entire life is backlogged, right now.

  11. Sending clear sinuses, fog-free thoughts and migraine-lessening air pressure your way. While I'm at it I should probably send you a vacuum to suck away any pollen and a gas-mask to deliver moist fresh air. I guess you may have to move to the Carribean!>!> Truly though, I am wishing you relief!! I abhor migraines!! Do you want my Emetrex?? It is safely stashed in my classroom for the migraines that come on me suddenly at work. Hang in there. I'll be sending good thoughts and prayers your way.

    1. Gaye,

Thanks -- for everything except the moist air! Don't need moisture, here!!! I'm allergic to every mold God makes. Mississippi is a terrible place to live if you're allergic to mold. I think I need to move to Arizona, actually. :) Nope, don't need to borrow your Imitrex. I've got some of that (emergency-room dosage), along with Maxalt and Relpax. Nothing works every time, unfortunately. Thanks for the thoughts and prayers! It's the wacky weather-pressure changes that are getting me, this week. Stupid weather.

  12. I have Cinder here. I really need to read it soon. And Vonnegut is one of my personal fav's. Can't wait to see your reviews. Sorry about the migraines. I really can relate.

    1. Stephanie,

Cinder is awesome. You will LOVE it, I'm sure. Vonnegut's stories in Armageddon in Retrospect were, I think, a bit of a purge. I can see why they weren't published in his lifetime, but they're excellent -- sad (a lot of anger directed at the U.S. for the bombing of Dresden) but with his trademark wit.

Thank you. Hopefully, the weather will decide to stay one way or another, soon. It's been flip-flopping from sunny to cloudy and the barometric pressure has gone with those changes, all week. Tis driving me freaking nutskies.

    1. Thanks, Trish!

I hope I'll get around to The Painted Veil, soon. I watched the movie, read the book, watched the movie again, then listened to the BBC Radio4 production. Gosh. Each was a little different. Interesting how they chose to make changes.
