It's too nice to stay indoors . . .

It's been gorgeous outside, so I can't seem to sit still or stay indoors for long and I'm falling behind on reading and posting - or, it feels like I am. Here are a few recent photographs I hope you'll all enjoy! Top to bottom: a store counter in Jackson, MS; the coolest dog I've ever met, a border collie named Huckleberry (waiting for my son to toss his "flippy flopper" on the grounds of Faulkner's Rowan Oak estate); a dandelion photo taken in my backyard, this afternoon; store kitty Mamasita in the window of Off-Square Books in Oxford, MS.

Love the photos - you've actually managed to make a dandelion look pretty!

  2. Thanks, Lesley!

I wish I didn't have those nasty dandelions in my yard, but I figured I might as well make use of them and snap a pic or two. I was surprised at how pretty they are close-up, all those dandy little hooks. Maybe that's where they got their name! :)

  3. Lovely photos, as usual, Nancy! The "I kiss better than I cook" sign is fun! Enjoy your nice weather.

Thank you for sharing your surroundings. It's hard to believe a weed can be so pretty. That must be a gem of a bookstore.
BTW: is the cooking that bad ? :)

  5. Nat,

Thanks. I just came in from letting the cats out to graze and it's still lovely. I intend to enjoy every minute. Isn't that sign great?

    Gavin,

Glad you like the photos. It is rather startling how pretty a weed can look up close, isn't it? Off-Square books is definitely a gem! We always seek out the store cat when we're in town, give her a little head rub and then drift off to look at the books.

Well, I could certainly use a sign like that. My cooking involves poking something with a fork and zapping it; I'm a survivalist cook. My husband enjoys cooking, but lately he keeps filling the house with smoke and setting the alarms off. Ouch! That smoke detector is ear-piercing!

  7. Thanks, Andi. That dog was so much fun that I'd have happily brought him home. His owners might have objected, though. He was very well trained!

  8. Too funny that we both have posts with "kiss" and "cook". Great pics (love the one with the dandelion)!

  9. I believe that every *proper* bookstore should have a cat. If I ever realize my dream of having my own bookstore someday, you can bet there will be a feline employee there.

  10. Les,

Kissing and cooks must go together, somehow. LOL Thanks (on the pics)!

    Malady,

I agree. Cats make a bookstore feel so homey. I wouldn't be surprised if her presence adds business. It's fun to see what she's up to. :)

Let me know if you ever open a bookstore - I'll come visit you and your store cat, for sure!!!

That's such a great pic of Huckleberry! You caught his playfulness.

  12. Thanks, Carrie. He was just darling. My husband and I were completely charmed and decided if we ever move somewhere with leash laws and sidewalks, we've found the kind of dog we'd like to own.

  14. Thanks, Iliana!

It's gorgeous out, again, so I went for a walk in the park. A red fox ran across the path in front of me!!! Oh, if only I'd had my camera (and he'd gone in slow motion . . . okay, that would be pushing it). I dragged my son out to the park on a second jaunt, just a bit ago, and we saw a wild turkey. Apparently, everyone is enjoying the weather, human or otherwise. :)

  17. Wendy,

Sorry about that! I must have accidentally hit the "no comment" button. I've enabled comments, now. :)

You're welcome and have fun posting! I love your blog!

    Corey,

Isn't that a great sign? Thanks for the congrats and it's good to "see" you in here!

  18. That kitty is so adorable!! I love the idea that the cat has free run in a book store. I'd definitely shop there, every day if possible. :)

  19. Me, too, Indigo. It's such a treat to look at books and seek out the store kitty that we always make a beeline to Off-Square Books when we're in town. She's a really sweet kitty, too, very accustomed to being lavished with attention and tolerant of all her admirers. :)
